Whenever i get the chance i love to tell people about 2 really worthy places to visit while in siem reap.Visit the childrens hospital to give blood - they desperatly need it. The hospital is run by an American, if he has the time he will come and chat with you about the need for blood for landmine victims. It is really hygenic and the staff are great. Oh, and you also get a free t-shit (friends without borders) a coldbottle of coke and some crackers! (how fab a coldbottle of cola when travelling... mm mmmmmmm)The landmine museum is worth the hellish tuk tuk journey too. I use the term 'museum' loosley by the way... It is run by this man who was a child soldier for both the Khmer Rouge and the Vietnamese army, he planted thousands of landmines over the years, then after the war was taken on by the UN to take them out. The UN now do not want him to continue de-mining without them - but he goes out every day and defuses them by hand. He also has a number of child landmine victims living with him who's parents cannot take care of them. He teaches them languages and they sell t-shirts etcfrom the museum. His stories are amazing and the kids are really good fun - spend some time and money there!!!!!!!!!!Oh, while im here.. if you book the bus back to the Thai border from here its obviously not the air conditioned coach they say... its the exact opposite - just make sure you rush on with the rest of the rabble so you have a proper seat and not a childrens plastic chair! over 5 hours of pure pain, worth it to laugh about it now though!!!!Cheerio!
