easyJet

Ryanair

Other:

Budget : Air Asia, Tiger Airways, Virgin Blue, Cebu Pacific, German Wings, WizzAir, Condor, SkyEurope and I will test Clickair in December.

For what reason do you fly?

Leisure - mostly

Business - sometimes

Family and Friends - often

What destinations have you flown to within the past 2 years?

A lot! these past 2 years have been the ones I've travelled the most. I've done 2 trips to Asia, the first one with Condor (last year they use to have return tickets for the Maldives and Sri Lanka for 198 euro including tax. They don't do that anymore) and this year we took Gulf Air to Singapore and did a trip entirely on low cost (Air Asia, Tiger and Virgin Blue) to Australia, Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam.

I also been to Colombia and Venezuela (where my family lives) and did some short breaks in Europe (Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Sweden, Greece...).

All this (except South America) thanks to Low Cost Carriers.

Are you aware of any Global Issues that Budget Airlines are causing?

No

If yes, what problems are you aware of?

The problem are not low cost carriers, is transport in general. There is a real demand for Air Travel (even if sometimes it's created by low prices) and LCC are making it affordable for everyone.
Using your car in the city contributes a lot to pollution, and despite of this, people still take their car rather than using the subway. Transport and communications come with globalization and have become essential.

The frech railways website put online what they call the "Ecocomparateur" (find it here ). It cmpares not only prices (train, plane and petrol + duty for your own car) but also the pollution. According to this, for a Paris to Nice (south of France), you pollute 5kg of CO2 with the train, if you fly it's 101kg, and if you take your car (an average car) it's 187kg (!). OK, you pollute less if you are 2 on the car, but the point is that everybody needs transport and unless you travel by train, this pollution will unfortunately be done.

For what reasons do you use budget airlines?

Cost

Choice of destinations

Would you fly on a Budget Airline to a destination more than 5 hours away?

Yes, already done it for 4h30. And I can't wait Oasis Hong Kong to open the Milan or Cologne routes (more convenient than London to me).

If a tax is put on flights will you reconsider how often you use airlines?

Yes and no. I only travel when I find an unbeattable price (I look often to the websites, that's why I can always find something cheap to somewhere).
It all depends on the original price. There are always taxes and that's normal, and regular airlines have the higer taxes! (Air France's long haul fuel surcharge is 160 euro for a round trip, so that's about 210 on taxes, depending on the destination. On european flights their taxes are 80?...).

Here is an exemple : If a Ryanair or Air Asia flight is 10 E and tax is 10E, it's a great global price. If a My Air flight is free, but tax is 25, fuel surcharge is 20 and service fee is 5 more, the price is more than the double...
