On the 2009 CD release of The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole there is a brief :16 introduction by Nat titled "Nat's Christmas Wishes."  Does anybody know when this was originally recorded?  Was it on one of the previous incarnations of The Magic of Christmas/The Christmas Song?

That clip entitled Nat's Christmas Wishes was never released on either one of Nat King Cole's two original Christmas LPs. It was only released as a bonus track on CD. I believe the clip comes from an old radio broadcast that Nat did in the 1950s.

Thanks, Chip.  Chalk it up as one more instance of frustration via vague liner notes.  I really like to know when and where recordings were made; it's the obsessive collector part of my brain, I guess. You've narrowed it down for me, though, so thank you.

I'm the same way; the more information the better. No detail is too small for me.

Chip and Joliom,

I''m the same way, and I often find "Noel" with a "Helenic Period" over the letter "e" so it looks like this "Noël"

When I transfer my vinyl to the computer, I try and enter as much information I am able to from the album jacket or label on the album itself into the meta data in the MP3.

I wasn't that good in English and punction marks are difficult to find on the computer.  I know there are certain keystrokes on the keyboard for the  Circle C "©", for Copyright, and the Circle R "®" for Registered Tradmark and then the Circle P "ⓟ" which was used a lot for Audio Recordings is much harder to find.  It's supposedly in the "Wingdings" Font package, but everything here, I copy and pasted from the Internet.

So even a much smaller detail is necessary for me for accuracy.

Christmas Always, if you go into the Start Menu and type "charmap.exe" ino the search box it will bring up the character map where you can find the keystrokes for all the special characters (for every font you have installed).

I used to use CD Trustee to catalog my music, but it was discontinued and I had to switch over to Music Collector.  For the most part, Music Collector has proven to be superior, and I was able to transfer all of my data, but I did suffer one major loss.  For years I had been transcribing titles and artist credits from original pressing singles and albums and I denoted all of the ones I had checked using special characters in the lyrics note field in CD Trustee.  Unfortunately, when I transfered my collection into Music Collector, all of that was lost.  I also didn't notice it until after I had thrown out my old computer and CD Trustee won't work on a 64-bit operating system, so I can't install it onto my new one.  It's one of those things that I'm still really kicking myself over.  I was in the middle of a really hectic move at the time, so I just didn't inspect the data transfer as thoroughly as I normally would have.  But that was at least 8 years worth of label research that went up in smoke.

Joliom,

I'm Susan, so I don't mind if you refer to me by my first name.

Thanks for the tip.  I've been using CaTraxx for my database, but it's such a tedious process typing all the information into the program.  But I like it because it has a section for the date it was released, then a section for if the copy I have was a reissue and so much more.

I'm trying to get the "Voice Recognition" program in Windows 7 to work to save me some typing, but that takes a lot of trial and error.

I had CaTraxx installed on my desktop computer, and it had 3 internal hard drives, and unfortunately my database that I had initially created was on drive "D", but now I am using that drive as an external hard drive in an external USB enclosure for the drive and my Notebook has a recovery partition being they don't sell computers with the installation discs anymore, so now my external drive is "F".  CaTraxx was able to rescan my files, and it downloaded information from a CD database, so it has incorrect artwork and information.  I have a backup file of my original database, but the reference for it is listed as drive "D" and I haven't played with it much to see about getting it changed so I don't have to retype all the correct information again.

I do realize I could delete the "Recovery Partition", being I made the back-up recovery discs, but then I would have to reformat and install everything all over again.  I'm not sure in Windows 7 if you can change drive letters or not, but in Windows-XP you could.

I can't imaging how Chip has his information stored, but I would venture to guess that even though I have a few thousand Christmas LP's and probably 1000+ other genre LP's and several hundred 45's cassettes and 8-tracks, but I'm sure it wasn't an easy task for him either.  I wouldn't say I have the largest collection for a collector, but I would say I have an above average collection.  I continue to add to it when finances allow and now I am able to even add another medium to my collection, Reel-to-Reel tapes.

I pretty much have every record since my childhood, but most are so scratched that they skip and I'm now in my middle 50's so I've amassed a rather large collection since my childhood.  You don't realize how much you actually have until you need to move and start packing them all into boxes.

I've been in my new apartment just over 5 months now and it's much smaller, but I only have my Christmas albums unpacked because I don't have anyplace to display them or have easy access to listen to them.  I need some heavy duty book cases, but I'm also limited to 2 rooms and 500 square feet.  And I went from 6 very large rooms to these 2 small rooms with a small bathroom and kitchen.  So most of my other albums are taking up space in my closets in boxes.

I know the feeling, Susan.  I'm renting a room from someone right now and all of my CD's are in storage.  All I have is what's saved on my hard drive and on iTunes.  Before this, I was living in a three bedroom apartment and had my stereo system and home theater set up, as well as all of my CD's in wallets on heavy bookcases.  It's taken some getting used to not having everything right at my fingertips anymore.  But I do have about 4,000 songs on my computer, so it's not like I have nothing to listen to.

What is more frustrating, is sometimes I want to listen to certain albums, and I can't because they are still packed in boxes.  I know I have them, but I just hate that I don't have easy or immediate access to them.

Then trying to find heavy duty bookcases, they aren't ones you can get at Walmart or other stores that have to be assembled, and you usually can find the heavy duty ones at thrift stores or yard/lawn/garage sales, but they probably wouldn't fit in the back of my vehicle.

I would like to have some type of room divider, being my living room/dining room is about 12' 8" x 16' 8" and I would love to put a book case on both sides of the living room leaving a space to walk between them and it would also make it look like 2 rooms, though small and then I could have more of my albums out.
