I'm wondering how many of you Yule Loggers out there carry your Christmas music around with you on an MP3 player or similar device.

Years ago I was given an old (and primitive) MP3 player via FreeCycleSeattle.  It only has 512 MB of memory, so it can only hold a few songs at a time, and doesn't support multiple playlists.

I'd like to replace it with a player that could have a number of different Christmas playlists on it so I could choose between different styles of music, depending on my mood:  jazz, rock, easy listening, dance, religious, etc.

If any of you are into MP3s I'd enjoy hearing about your players and the software you use to create your playlists.

I never even touched an MP3 player!

I still rely on two sets of old speakers - a completely restored set of Acoustic Research speakers my father purchased on Radio Row (NYC) in 1962 and a twenty five year old pair of large Advents - a Nakamichi cassette deck, AR turntable, McIntish tube, Sony CD player, and a mint Ampex rack mount reel-to-reel that came from a radio station. Except for the CD player, none of these components were made after 1989. As long as they continue to be trouble free and sound as good as they still do, I don't see an MP3 player in my future just yet.

I have one made my Coby, it is capable of playing Video, but it has to be in a special format.  I have it loaded with several Christmas Albums and also the 3 hours soundtrack from the restored WPIX Yule Log, but I don't have the fourth hour added to it and it is one continuous MP3 so I can't skip ahead to another song and or repeat a song.  But that's OK because it's almost like watching The WPIX Yule Log by having the TV on in another room but I'm in the kitchen cooking.  I can hear it but not see it.

I really don't use any software for creating a playlist, I just copy an album that I have converted from Vinyl to MP3 on my computer and I have the entire album in a folder of it's own and for each album, I just copy the entire folder to my MP3 player and I can then choose whichever album I want to listen to.

The only thing I have ever put on my MP3 is Christmas music and also the WPIX Yule Log fireplace that was made available for download from the WPIX website, but it isn't the entire program, just a little bit of the flames flickering and it just loops.  Supposedly, I am able to use that for a background while any of the music I want to listen to is playing, but it isn't a regular MP3 player such as an I-Pod so I don't really know too much about how to do that.

It's nice to have my MP3 player with me when I am at a Dr's office and have to wait a long time before they call me into a room.  At least I can enjoy some beatiful Christmas music instead of hearing other people talking.  Thouogh I do prefer hearing music through my Stereo Speakers and my records.

I still use my old 2gig Sansa c250 but recently I got a iPod Nano, 6th Generation as a 30th anniversary gift from my employer. I bought my wife a 4gig Sansa Clip a couple of years ago. For the money, I like the SanDisc Sansa Clip line, Amazon has the 4gig version for under 40 bucks.

anthonyv, don't those speakers get a little heavy after you've been carrying them around for a while . But seriously, your system sounds about the same vintage as mine; I have a mixture of Denon (cassette deck, turntable), Yamaha (receiver), and even have the first cassette deck I ever bought, an Onkyo which still works like a champ. And the ADS L880 speakers I bought eons ago are the best I've ever heard (imo). Recently I've been using this setup, along with my MacBook Pro and iMic, to rip my Goodyear and Grant's compilations to MP3. Glad to see old stereo gear being being put to good use to play our favorite yuletide songs!

Love my iPod.  I put all my favorite Christmas music on it each year.  Take it on my walks...my cd-player has a port for the iPod so I can just connect it and have the music play through the iPod to the stereo speakers.  I love albums, but all the moving I've done doesn't allow me to keep an extensive collection.
