Chip,

I had remembered you doing a few posts from Paul Mauriat, and I did a search for "Paul Mauriat" and the one that came up Petit Papa Noel (Little Santa Claus)
I clicked on the video for Love Is Blue and received a message "This video is Private" so I clicked on the YouTube Icon to view it on YouTube and got a message that "This video contains content from UMG.  It is not available in your country.  Sorry about that."

Anyways, I wanted to compare the track listing on the cover of the album that is at the beginning of the video because I purchased the 4-Track Reel-to-Reel of the album "Blooming Hits  Paul Mauriat and his orchestra", and the artwork is identical.

I was wondering if the tape was also released in 1968 and if the track listing is the same as on the vinyl?  I don't have a copy on Vinyl but the tape is on the Philips label and catalog number is PTC 6248

Side 1
Something Stupid
Penny Lane
This Is My Song
Seuls Au Monde (Alone In The World)
Inch Allah

Side 2
(There's A) Kind Of Hush
Puppet On A String
L'Amour Est Bleu (Love Is Blue)
Adieu A La Nuit (Adieu To The Night)
MAMA

Lastly, I remember in one of our conversations about "Love is Blue) albeit via the message board or emails. you had mentioned that there were a couple different renditions of this song, so I'm wondering if this it the original version on this tape?.  I had thought I had it on a 45RPM record, but it turns out it was a "Sound A-Like" record so it wasn't even by Paul Mauriat.

Yes Susan, the Reel-To-Reel tape for the album Blooming Hits was released the same year as the LP (1968) and the track listing was the same for both. And yes, Paul Mauriat recorded several later versions of Love Is Blue,
but none were ever nearly as good as his original version from 1968. By the way, I updated the YouTube hyperlinks for Petit Papa Noel, Love Is Blue and Mrs. Robinson on my 'In The Spotlight' tribute to Mr. Mauriat (Click here).

Thanks Chip,

I wasn't sure if the YouTube links were from your own channel or someone elses and they got deleted//

I've looked for a long time for a good vinyl copy for this album, but they were usually very scratchy or the jacket was moldy.  The tape plays fine and I'm glad to know that the 1968 is original version but I couldn't remember from our previous discussions and I was disappointed that when I found my 45 that it was a Sound A Like recording and not Paul Mauriat.

I have so much music now, I don't know what to do with it all, there is no way that I could ever listen to everything even if I were albe to listen 24 hours a day 365 days a year I wouldn't even come close to listening to everything, but it's nice to know that if I want to hear something specific that I am able to.

I'm hoping to get a couple of good strong book cases so I can get the rest of my albums out of the boxes that were in the closet and hope that the ones that got a little damp from the flooding when the upstairs water tank went that they will be OK.

I can't remember if I mentioned this or not here but a couple of weeks ago, a tenant whom was evicted had a grudge against maintenance and management and after he moved his sister out, the same night, the hot water tank starts leaking?  It's just too coincidental, and though we didn't see him, we heard a lot of banging and slamming doors which was what he would do anyways.  Well the water flooded his apartment, then leaked into the empty apartment below and across the floors into my apartment and it was a good thing I noticed it when I did, otherwise, the damage could've been much worse.  I got to my boxes of records before the water soaked through, though some of the albums did get a little damp.

I can't put anything back in that closet because they have to steam clean the carpet, so my apartment is discombobulated right now but if I could find a couple matched book cases, I just might be able to have all my albums out and have easy access to them without taking up too much room in my apartment.

But getting back to the hot water tank leaking, it's highly unlikely that it would've went the same day he moved his sister out, and the way that the tank was leaking wasn't normal.  Then it turns out the the guy also knew about plumbing.  So he wanted to do as much damage as possible and he sure did.  They had just finished refurbising the downstairs apartment, brand new carpets, painted and repaired all the walls and replaced the tub and a few other things and the water leaked into the renovated apartment and ruined everything.

Though there is no visual proof that he was here, but circumstantial evidence is enough to convict him and then too, he won't be able to keep his mouth shut and will incriminate himself in court.  He has been nasty to police officers and Federal Agents so he's a huge trouble maker.

Glad to hear that your damage from the leak was limited. As you said, it certainly could have been a lot worse indeed.

By the way, another great Paul Mauriat LP that I can recommend to you is More Mauriat. As you can see by the album cover posted below, it has some really great tunes on it. This LP was Mr. Mauriat's first foray into recording Pop songs of the day, or as the cover so aptly puts it: The Dynamic Paul Mauriat Orchestra Doing The "Now" Scene. I also posted below a YouTube listing of one of the great selections from the LP: his great rendition of the Los Bravos hit Black Is Black. This song really proves that Paul Mauriat could really rock.

Although I don't see them listed on the albums mentioned here, I would have to include Paul Mauriat's version of "La Mer (Beyond The Sea)" and "San Francisco (Wear Some Flowers In Your Hair)" on my Top Ten list of greatest instrumentals.  I think the latter may had even been released as a single.

Thanks for the information on this album Chip,

I've probably seen it in my travels over the years but didn't think much about it at the time being I was much younger and really only knew "Love Is Blue" and his Christmas album.

I have a few other similar albums by other artists from this time that did hit's of the '60's, but off the top of my head, I can't remember specific artists.  I want to say Henry Mancini, The Ray Conniff Singers and Percy Faith, but again, I can't say for sure.  There were other albums put out but other artists too.  I think there were titles like The Best of 1966"  "The Best of 1967" etc.  I think there were renditions of Beatles hits, The Fifth Dimension and some other's.

That is absolutely correct: Mr. Mauriat's magnificent rendition of Scott McKenzie's hit San Francisco is another one of his very best. It was released on yet another one of his great LPs, 1968's Mauriat Magic. And yes, Philips Records also released the song as a single that year as well.

Chip:  Thank you for posting that video clip of "San Francisco"... really enjoyed it!

Mr. Mauriat passed away only a few years ago, didn't he?

Funny story about "Love Is Blue"... Does anyone remember an episode of The X-Files where a looney woman kept people locked up in a cell and forced them to listen to the song over and over?  The song figured very prominently in the story.

That's correct; Mr. Mauriat died 5½ years ago on November 3, 2006.
