I notice that a number of markets will receive the Yule Log broadcast either overnight or very early morning (i.e. Chicago 1:30 AM-4:30 AM, Seattle 5 AM-10 AM). I'd advise viewers in those markets to set their DVR's before Santa arrives so they can watch it Christmas morning! If they should sleep late, they can still enjoy it!

Chip, that's great news about WPIX airing an additional 2 hours (from 4 AM to 6 AM) of the Yule Log along with the usual 4 hours (from 9 AM to 1 PM) they normally broadcast. I'm wondering if they will run the first 2 of the 3 hours of the Yule Log during the 4 AM broadcast and then show the third and final hour of the Yule Log at 9 AM and then finally replay the entire 3 hours starting at 10 AM. That makes sense to me. Chip, do you know how WPIX is going to run the Yule Log this Christmas now that they have added the 2 extra hours at 4 AM?

Even though the airing scheme that you suggested sounds on the surface like it would be the most logical, that is not how I instructed engineering to broadcast the program. The simple reason is that most people are not up at 4am, and therefore shouldn't be cheated out of seeing the program shown from its rightful beginning at 9am. Please remember that the recently added 2 extra broadcast hours are bonus hours that are in addition to the main broadcast airing from 9am-1pm.
Therefore, here's what's going to happen: between 4am and 6am the first 2 hours of the program will be broadcast. Then, at 9am, the program will be broadcast (from the beginning) in its entirety until 12pm. And finally, for the final hour between 12pm and 1pm, songs 13-36 will be repeated. This will ensure that Percy Faith concludes the broadcast, as is traditional.

Hi! I'm new here, but not new to The Yule Log! I love The Yule Log and record it early on Christmas morning each year so I can run it while we open gifts later in the morning. My avator is a photo of our Christmas tree and The Yule Log running from last year. My family isn't sure if I'm stable, but they all humor me (I think they secretly would miss it if I neglected to play it!). I'm in AZ and we get it in on WGN via our dish. I sure wish I could get a DVD of it. I've tried buying other versions on DVD, and they just don't compare.  Thank you so much for The Yule Log. According to the on-screen program guide provided by Verizon FiOS (my TV service provider), the early Christmas morning broadcast of the Yule Log on WPIX will only be on between 4:00 AM to 5:00 AM. According to their program guide, WPIX will be showing their local news from 5:00 AM to 9:00 AM with the Yule Log continuing at 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. It's possible that Verizon had made a mistake in their WPIX programming schedule for the early morning broadcast of the Yule Log and that it will be shown from 4:00 AM to 6:00 AM as originally scheduled. Chip, could you find out from WPIX if there has been a scheduling change or not?

Thanks! And, yes...now that you mention it, that is NOT the Yule Log in my avatar!! I didn't realize it but last year we did have some others running on comcast as an option in their "on demand" type menu. I had forgotten that, and just assumed it was the Yule Log...and of course you would be able to discern the difference! Thanks for correcting me, and for forgiving me, as well. :) This year, I will be sure to take another picture with the one and only, original, Yule Log! It's much better anyway...I used the other versions last year in the days prior to Christmas, because the Yule Log had been wiped from our DVR memory.  So glad another hour has been added! What is going on with KTLA, California? The one year that I'm actually spending Christmas in Southern CA......and they aren't airing the Yule log ?????? Fortunately, I do get superstation WGN....I think. I really wanted to watch KTLA's version though. Oh well.

You know, as of now, on WGN's Holiday Schedule, they are showing the Yule Log airing at 2:30 am on the 25th.

Hi, Chip,
Glad to find the web site, and that the Yule Log has such support! We are great fans of the program, have been since it's been running in our market.
But, we saw the show run at a different time on our station than what your posting shows. On WXMI in Grand Rapids, the "Christmas Yule Log" ran from 6:30-9:00am on 12/25/09. I'm sure it's the same show, I looked at the song list, and it matches completely. Any thoughts on the difference from your posting? I hope people know to check the local listings for changes in the future. How sad if you missed this classic. (We have a DVR, so that makes it all the more convenient.)
Also, regarding your page that suggests contacting local sponsors to show support: Would it be appropriate to post a list of the sponsors for our market? What forum would you suggest?

Hi all, we're watching a different version of the log on Time-Warner cable (NYC.) Just wondering about its background- where it was filmed, why, how, etc. etc. Not nearly as charming as the traditional one. Thanks!

**KDAF/Dallas, KIAH/Houston, KTLA/Los Angeles and KSWB/San Diego are not showing the WPIX Yule Log.
