Sorry about that errant release date.  I got it off Wiki.  So that means my mother purchased "O Bambino" the year it was released, 1965.  That's what I thought in the first place!  And yes, I vividly remember the album cover.  I hope the full-length album eventually gets released on CD.

I also had "Sing We Now Of Christmas" not the 1959 single album but as a double album b/w "Merry Christmas Carols" by The Radio City Organ and Chimes which IINM was released in 1961.  Sides 1 and 2 was "Sing We Now Of Christmas".  Sides 3 and 4 was "Merry Christmas Carols".  I do recall the label read "20th Fox".

Although it isn't on the Top 50 Christmas Albums of all time, I have a personal favorite that one hardly hears.  It is The Harry Simeone Chorale's 1963 release of "O Bambino".  The album also contained a new recording of "The Little Drummer Boy".  The original Little Drummer Boy was released on 20th Century Fox records in 1958.  The O Bambino album was released on Kapp Records.

O Bambino was one of my grandmother's favorite Christmas carols from her native Italy.  My mother loved that song growing up as well.  My mother purchased the Harry Simeone Chorale O Bambino album in 1965.  I always liked that album.  Apparently it's not available on CD.  Amazon offers it on vinyl only.

Any chance we might see this long lost treasure released on CD?

Merry Christmas to all!

No New York area radio station did Christmas like WPAT-FM!  There was 93.1 FM and there was everyone else.  I recall many a Christmas Eve dinner with relatives with the background music provided by WPAT-FM.  Still recall the promo (probably Ken Lamb), "It just wouldn't be Christmas without The Spirit of Christmas".

Christmas Eve dinner and 93.1 FM.  My relatives are gone now as well as the radio station, but the memories and the music will live forever!

CBS2 News in NY ran a feature tonight about "Broken Heart Syndrome".  It appears very likely Debbie Reynolds died of grief over her daughter Carrie.  Very sad.  May they both rest in peace.

Well it took long enough, but this year I purchased the Blu Ray version of It's A Wonderful Life.  I got the Platinum Anniversary edition.  When I opened the package, it contained two discs.  One was the original B&W edition, the other was the colorized version.  On Christmas Eve, I decided I'd watch the colorized edition since I'd never seen it.  And of course, I could watch it with no commercials!  I'd say Paramount did a good job with the colorization.  The clarity was definitely better than the regular DVD version.

It's A Wonderful Life is a chestnut that just gets better with years.  It's part of my required Christmas viewing.

Oh, my!  Another Christmas chestnut that got lost in a family move!  I recall receiving "Joy To The World" for Christmas 1961.

Thanks again, Chip!

As an aside to the upcoming re-mastering in 2017 of "Music Of Christmas", most of us know that the original 1954 recording was released on both LP and 45 EP in three volumes.  We had only one of those three 45 EPs in our home.  I was wondering which volume we owned.  My best memory of that 45 EP was that one of the sides (not sure if it was the A or B side) led off with "O Holy Night".  Which volume was that?

WOW!  I'm nearly speechless!  Finally, we will get to hear "Music Of Christmas" as Columbia engineers and Percy Faith himself heard it when the 1954 masterpiece was re-recorded in the new medium of stereo in 1959.  Whether or not you owned a copy of the album, "Music Of Christmas" was everywhere.  Selections from the album were played on radio stations everywhere for decades, particularly WPAT-FM.  I'd be remiss if I didn't mention The Yule Log.  Those songs against the backdrop of that fireplace still give a feeling of Christmas that the passage of time cannot erase.

The bonus tracks look very good, too!  I hope you are able to secure all of them!  I hope we can all have this required Christmas CD in our homes by Thanksgiving 2017, so we can listen to it as we decorate our homes for Christmas.

Thanks for all your hard work Chip!

Wow!  A 5-hour Yule Log, perhaps, next Christmas!  Hard to believe Christmas 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of the first broadcast of The Yule Log on WPIX.

If WPIX agrees to it, that'll mean they'd have to start at 8 AM, pre-empting an hour of PIX 11 Morning News or if they allow 9 AM - 2 PM, the timeless Laurel and Hardy classic March of the Wooden Soldiers would start at 2 PM.  Christmas 2016 falls on a Sunday.  Not sure if PIX 11 runs the Morning News on Sunday.

Modell's Sporting Goods paid for the time this year.  If Modell's is willing to pay for the fifth hour, would that be OK with WPIX?

Very exciting news, Chip!  Good luck with it!

Hi Susan,
Comcast apparently gets its information from TV Guide, since the TV Guide logo appears on the screen.  I'm pretty sure the same is true for Cablevision and Time Warner.

Cable subscribers who have the on screen TV Guide got a bit of a scare Christmas Eve.  When I checked the listings for PIX 11, no Christmas programming was shown, no Midnight Mass from St. Patrick's and no Yule Log!

I went right to the PIX 11 website and everything we expect on Christmas Eve and Day was listed.  All was well!

Anyone else have the same experience?

I just checked the live stream and it's showing a PIX 11 newscast, not The Yule Log!
