Although some folks on this site have made reference to it in the past, I felt it appropriate to put a little more of an emphasis on this subject than was previously mentioned elsewhere. It seems that someone or more than one person deemed it necessary to bring back the YL due to the terror attacks of the World Trade Center on 9/11. From what I have heard, the crews at WPIX felt that the viewers deserved the return of a Christmas institution that had been unfairly taken off the air for 12 years. If this was in fact the case, then all I can say is that you have made a lot of people very happy, myself included and to keep the tradition going as long as you possibly can!

Chip: You have been the most influential person I have been in contact with in helping to not only bring something back as beautiful as the YL but to also somehow be able to convince the station to add a 4th hour of extra music in addition to being all the more commercial-free. I don't know how you do it, but whatever technique you are utilizing, KEEP IT UP!! It would appear that you have made the YL even more popular than it was when the idea was initially thought of. I think Fred Thrower would be very proud of you if he were still alive today.

What more can I say? Merry Christmas!

It should also be noted that on Christmas 2001, the year the Yule Log returned to WPIX-11 after a 12-year absence, it outrated all competing NY stations in its time slot.  In 1989, the powers that be then at WPIX decided The Yule Log was demographically undesirable and had run its course.  I wonder what those suits are thinking now!

Ironically, in 2001, I was largely unaware of The Yule Log revivial.  I spent that holiday at the Williams Inn in Williamstown, MA where we lit a real Yule Log!

Today the Yule Log is alive, well and growing in popularity.  For all that you do, Chip, we're behind you!

Wow. That is an overwhelming bit of history.  There's no doubt the comfort, and hope the Log brings.
