No need to hope, as I can tell you categorically that it will be broadcast this year on WGN.

WHEW! That's a BIG releif to me-now,I hope they don't mess it up like they did two years ago (some might differ with my comment....oh,well) with interrupting the music flow with additional material (how's about a suggestion for the Superstation...How about waiting until The tail-end to start those program? that way,EVERYBODY'S HAPPY..AND NO MORE PROBLEMS! just a mere suggestion...O.K.?) that'll satsify Everybody,,,Including me! Thank you! Michael Boyce

I agree, that was an execrable programming decision on their part. I think they learned from it and I'm sure it won't be repeated. When it comes to this festive and sacred program, my motto is hands-off.

Actually, it's not CW stations.  It's stations owned by Tribune Broadcasting, and that includes Fox and My Network TV (such as - I'm hoping - WPHL-TV).

I was just curious if if anyone knows if the WPIX YULE LOG will be aired in my area (Buffalo, NY)?  We have WNLO (CW) and WNYO (MY-TV).  We do have DirecTV and receive WGN, but I'm worried if we get a snowstorm that we will lose signal at some point while watching this year's broadcast. (Then we would have to watch it on regular TV with an indoor antenna, if, 1 of our 2 locat stations woudl broadcast the YULE LOG) Fortunately, the dish is right outside the window so I could reach out and brush the snow of it, but it would be nice to see the whole broadcast without interruption.  I don't believe our former WB station WNYO aired the the YULE LOG at all.  I have emailed WPIX a few times but haven't received any replies.  Sincerely, Susan

Susan,

I'm rather surprised you even bothered emailing WPIX when you've got us as a resource right here.

WPIX is still waiting for an answer from your local affiliate, so WGN is your best bet right now.

Hi Chip,  I tried emailing them while the site was down, but, also before I joined The Yule Log.com I had emailed them a few times.  I was so afraid that even WGN might not air the Yule Log this year so i tried to cover al the bases. so to speak.  I've even been watching my VHS tape of the Yule Log from a couple years ago. In some ways, I wish I still had Ddish Network, but they require 2 seperat dishes to get our local channels and they did offer WPIX as an A-La-Carte Superstation thought I don't think they do anymore)

Susan, as James said above; It's not CW stations or any other network. It's Tribune owned stations. WPIX will only "share" with its sister Tribune stations. So unfortunately, keep the brush handy next to the dish!

Welcome to the Yule log.com message board jshunt!

We have not yet heard from CW affiliate WSFL in Miami, but notwithstanding, I'm sure you will be able to pick up the broadcast from your local cable/satellite company via Superstation WGN out of Chicago.

They will air the Yule Log Anniversary special between 1:30 AM and 2:30 AM (CST), followed by a 2-hour edition of our restored Yule Log presentation between 2:30 AM and 4:30 AM (CST).

*Note: The above times are in Chicago's Central Standard Time. For those in the Eastern Time Zone, add 1 hour to the above times.

And for those down in South Florida...

December 25th, 7 AM-10 AM EST on South Florida's CW!

Sadly, though, no 40th anniversary special airing.

Yes indeed folks, the complete affiliate listings have now been posted on the site: In the end, 13 affiliates (7 CW, 4 FOX, 2 MNTV) picked up the program, and of those 13, 6 affiliates (3 CW, 2 FOX, 1 MNTV) are carrying the 40th anniversary special.

Unfortunately, 8 held out -- too bad for the people in those cities. They are listed at the bottom of the page with a convenient link you can use to email them and make an appeal to, well -- get with the program (pardon the pun).

Bad news for those in the Capital Region of Albany.

No Yule Log this year. Get online to http://capitalregioncw.trb.com and ask for it next year.

That brings the total of TRib channels not carrying The Yule Log to nine.

No, it's still 8; Tribune Broadcasting no longer owns WCWN.

Unfortunately, there's no way that Superstation WGN will air the full 4 hours of music, only two hours.  Interesting that local WGN in Chicago will air the full 4 hours, which we can't get.  Since we have DirectTV, I think that those of us who can't get it probably would be willing to Pay Per View the entire 5 hours.  I know from our point here in TN, it's a no-brainer.  Any suggestions?

Welcome to the message board Kris -- glad to see you make your first post!

If it's any consolation, you will really only be missing 1 hour of original music as WGN-9 is repeating an hour. As I said previously on the board, next year I'm sure Superstation WGN will air the full 3-hour program of the Yule Log by virtue of the fact that they will probably not be repeating the 40th anniversary special. They typically allocate 3 hours to their Yule Log coverage, and because they chose to air the anniversary special, that only left 2 hours for the Yule Log itself.

The only suggestion I can make is to call or write Superstation WGN and let them know what you think.

Thanks Chip, told you I was getting old!  Of course I should know better, 3 hours of music plus hour special.  Was coming back to correct but you were too quick for me.  I'll give Superstation another try, and I'll email them as well.  I know there are others like me and we'll see what kind of answer we get.

I love my music as well, and after spending 50 years in New York, probably the only true thing I miss (besides good Italian food) is the Yule Log I grew up with.

Thanks to you and Joe for your wonderful labor of love.  I can see it in your writings, and it really comes out on the site.  Truly a Christmas present I was not expecting!

I'm glad we could make you Christmas a little brighter this year Kris, as well as bring a little New York to your new home in Tennessee.

Happy Yuletide!

In this past year Gannett acquirted WATL 36 here in Atlanta. However according to my local listings WATL is running the Yule log from 5-9 AM Christmas morning. How is this possible? I thought only Tribue stations were running The Log.

Welcome to the board B.D.!

Yes, that is correct -- only Tribune stations are allowed to carry the original and genuine WPIX Yule Log.

What WATL-TV in Atlanta is showing is not the real McCoy.

it seems very odd that WATL is running a knock off. But hey it will still be nice. The other thing that keeps me scratching my head is that WATL is running other programs being run by Tribune stations, such as The Hollywood Christmas Parade. I know the deal with Gannett has been completed but is it possible that this is a transitional period in which programming from both groups are being used. For example the NBC affiliate WXIA in Atlanta (also Gannett) has been doing news and other programming for WATL for a few months now.

Hi All,
I'm new here and I was just wondering if someone could tell me what station The Yule Log will be on here in L.A.

Last year it was KTLA Channel 5, but with the CW merge, I'm not sure. Thanks and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Sorry, doglover2, but KTLA, a Tribune station, will not be running the Yule Log this year according to the Yule Log website. However, if you have Superstation WGN on your cable or satellite then you can watch it on Christmas Day from 12:30 AM to 2:30 AM Pacific Time. You can also watch the 40th anniversary special, A Log's Life, at 11:30 PM Pacific Time on Christmas Eve just before the Yule Log.

WDCW 50 in Washington, DC, a Trib-owned statation, is doing their own Yule Log from 8 AM to 11 AM Christmas Day. Somebody please check into that as I have been known to believe they taped it at Colonial Williamsburg IIRC.

BDBopper,

To answer your question about WATL, Joey has posted a new thread:

http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id=670172&CategoryID=454534&startcat=1&ThreadID=2708266

doglover2,

Welcome to the board!

Like Jerry said: WGN is your best bet -- hopefully you receive it!

J.C.,

I have no idea what fireplace WDCW filmed for their spurious Yule Log, and quite frankly -- I really don't care. My only concern is with stations that are loyal to the original WPIX Yule Log and air the real thing.

By the way, they are not the only Tribune station airing a knock off Yule Log: Our 'friends' at KDAF in Dallas are doing the same thing.

Wow! Thank you to all who replied. I have found that I do have WGN, so praise Jeebus, I'll be watching the Yule Log this year!

Again thanks and Happy Holidays!
