The passing yesterday of the fifth anniversary of the attack on New York started me thinking again of another attack on not only New York, but our beloved Yule Log. It came last year from a resident of Arizona in a post that was filed on the Jump The Shark.com website, where the Yule Log is one of the shows featured.I originally posted the following message last year, and now I'm posting it again here; it is especially for those members who are new to the board and had never seen it:?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comThis is an appeal to show your love and support for the WPIX Yule Log by filing a post on the Jump The Shark.com website. This would especially be welcomed to specifically rebut a few negative remarks that have been posted about the show thus far; in particular, an especially virulent one from a resident of the state of Arizona who assailed the show and also berated the people of New York. Well, I must say that I don't usually lose my temper, but as you will see, my anger is clearly evident in my response.First, here is the remark that Joe and I took great umbrage to:Instantly, Ok I love Christmas but get real what this comes down to is a bunch of programming execs who really can't come up with any thing worth watching, As far as the happy people from New York, I will say this, The reason we live in AZ is because we don't want to live in NY so leave your attitudes and your TV shows there. Here then, was my response:The WPIX Yule Log is a jolly, happy tradition that has brought Yuletide joy to countless people in the New York metropolitan area over the years. As far as the person commenting from Arizona, it is these type of people, with this type of an attitude, that sadly, New York has a reputation for having -- and we're glad when they get the hell out. PS - I'm sure Arizona doesn't want you either. And here was Joe's:Anyone who thinks this program is to be "watched" shouldn't even be commenting on it. It's an ambiance thing people. It was not created to be viewed like a regular television program. It was created in 1966 to give New Yorkers, particularly high rise dwellers, a sense of warmth and cheer that a holiday fireplace can bring. Many in the metropolitan area grew up with this tradition and since the program's return to the airwaves in 2001, the show has not only surpassed all other station ratings for its time slot, but has been extended, converted to Hi-Def and stations all over the country have been picking it up. The overwhelming approval of the show was done without the permission of those who live in Arizona. As far as moving from New York to Arizona, I hardly approve. Also, one less insensitive individual won't be missed in New York or noticed in Arizona. For those of you who are fans of The Yule Log, please visit my website...www.theyulelog.comI implore you:Show your support for the Yule Log, WPIX-TV, and New York in general by submitting a post and appropriately expressing your thoughts on this subject. On behalf of Webmaster Joe Malzone and myself, a heartfelt thanks to all of you who have already filed a post, and to those of you who will take the time to do so in the future.http://www.jumptheshark.com/y/yulelog.htm
