I was surfing the net recently and went to the sitewww.youtube.comand in the search box, I typed in Yule Log just to see what came up. There was about a 2 minute clip of the WPIX Yule Log found but instead of the X-mas music, it had what appeared to be the actual sound of the fire and the crackiling of the log. I'm not sure if this was the original audio from when the log was first filmed but it sure sounded like it. I could be wrong. What do you think?

No, it is not original audio. The Yule Log was video taped sans audio, as the plan was always air it concomitantly with a music soundtrack. Joe told me about this website sometime back, and we both agree this audio was added by YouTube.com.

Hey Guru...out of all the people on this site, I was expecting you to be the one to clarify that one for me. Maybe from now on when I have a subject or question to post on this site, I should address it to you personally, Mr. know it all! HA! HA!

The Guru thanks you Sir.

Indeed, I am most humbled by your perspicacious words.

By the way, what you just said is exactly why Joey is creating the "Chip's Tips" section on the Yulelog.com website, which he announced on the message board home page. In the future, if you choose to do so, you will be able to contact me directly at chip@theyulelog.com with any question you might have. Or, if you prefer, as before, you can post it to the open forum on the message board.

Let me also take this opportunity to say that I have almost completed my first column, and as soon as the "Chip's Tips" section is added to the site, voila! -- It will be posted.

And WPIX has put the log film on iFilm.com as well. And yes, this two-minute clip has natural audio.

iFilm link to The WPIX Yule Log

James,

The iFilm.com video is the same video and audio as the one that richiedoo mentioned in the original post to this thread.  As Chip mentioned upthread someone else (not WPIX) added the sound of the fire to the WPIX Yule Log video.

Though, the iFilm one does link directly to the WPIX page for the Yule Log, so that's something extra nice.  Chip, do you know if WPIX did send this to iFilm, or is someone very nice just giving the proper credit to the owners of the video image?

On the WPIX page, they have a way to upload the Yule Log and some songs to an iPod.  I don't have an iPod (and don't plan on ever getting one), but if anyone has done it, how much video do you get, and are the songs the versions that we know and love?

Thanks,
Ed

I don't know for fact, but it does say courtesy of New York's WPIX-TV. Of course, that refers to the video portion; ifilm themselves supplied the crackling audio.

Chip,

The audio portion was added by whomever uploaded the video to YouTube and iFilm, though I don't see any reference on any iFilm video that credits the person who posted a video, like YouTube does..  YouTube and iFilm do not add anything to the videos they host.

Perhaps, in each case, it was uploaded by someone associated with WPIX, since they did reference the station each time.  Perhaps they wanted to do a bit of advertising, especially in the iFilm version, where a direct link to WPIX is used.

Hi all, just for the heck of it, I downloaded the Podcast off PIX's website. This file is simply MPEG4 video set to work with iTunes. The audio on the Podcast is in fact the crackle of a fireplace. It may actually have been added by PIX themselves. I will look into this and try to get more info on it!
