The great Jo Stafford, who was often referred to as "America's most versatile singer" because of the wide range of material that she performed, earned a total of 3 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: one for radio, one for television and, of course, one for recording.

This extremely gifted singer who was widely known for the purity of her voice recorded 3 holiday albums during her great career. The best of these 3 albums were the two that she recorded for Columbia Records in the 1950s: Happy Holiday (1955) and Ski Trails (1956).

Here now is Jo's excellent medley Jingle Bells/Winter Wonderland, which appeared on both the 1955 and 1956 LPs. The second selection I posted is Jo's fine rendition of Sleigh Ride from the 1956 LP. Jo is accompanied here as usual with her talented arranger/conductor husband, Paul Weston.

And, for anyone who doesn't know this already, the complete contents of both of Ms. Stafford's seasonal efforts for Columbia can be found on a CD compilation called Happy Holidays: I Love the Winter Weather, released on the Corinthian Records label that she and Paul Weston founded.

Meanwhile, her third Christmas album, 1964's The Joyful Season on Capitol, was reissued on the DRG label a few years back, eked out with some stray tracks from early in her career, including a couple of nice carol medleys recorded in 1949 with Gordon MacRae.

For you folks interested in purchasing the Happy Holidays CD, please Click Here. The link that Mike posted is textually correct, but it sends you to the Joyful Season CD.

Frank, Toyland does appear on Happy Holidays: I Love the Winter Weather, as track #7.
