Now that I've traced my CD copying errors to Nero 7 ( See: How to eliminate *pops* in CD-Rs?), I'm no longer comfortable using it for burning compilation CDs either.

So, which Windows software do you use for burning your favorite songs to a CD "Mixtape"?

I'm hoping to find a free program that will allow me to just drag and drop my WAV or FLAC  files into a list.  And also drag and drop items up and down the list to reorder them before finally burning the CD-R.

Will,

I don't know about FLAC files,  but WAV and MP3 files will work for sure and Windows Media Player has a built-in CD burning function if you want to use songs you already have on your computer.

I haven't done this in awhile, but I think you can put the particular songs you want to burn to a CD in a temporary folder and then open Media Player and then click on "File" and then "Open" and choose the folder where your songs are located.  Then select all of them by holding down the Control key and then click on each song you want and then Media Player will start playing them, but there is the "Burn" option and you can burn the songs to a CD-R.  Again, I haven't done this in a long time.  I'm more into ripping my vinyl albums to the computer and not making CD's.

There is free software out there too, but you have to be careful, because some the the "Free" ones have Malware or Spyware attached to them.

I used to use Easy CD Creator, but I don't know if they even make it anymore.  It came with my first CD Burner several years ago.  You should've received some sort of CD Burning Software with your CD Burner when you bought it too.  Or was it Nero that came with it?

I hope I was somewhat helpful and not confusing.

Will,

Use ImgBurn for this as well.  It works great.

Tools - Creat Cue File

Once you have created a cue file, you can write that file to a blank CD.

Here is a link to a guide on how to do it.

Thanks a million, Perry!  That's great news!

I can't wait to try it out.  I'm a day late and a dollar short on burning my Christmas party CDs for 2011, but I've got a big head start on 2012, haven't I?

Is there anything ImgBurn can't do?  For instance, can it erase a CD-RW disk?

And, thanks, Susan, for reminding me that Windows Media Player is a powerful tool.  I'm afraid that I stopped using it years ago, after it renamed all of my MP3s to the same file name when I tried to import them into its library.

So I had to  go through my hundreds of MP3s and manually rename each one back to its correct filename one at a time.  ARGH!

Maybe it's time I give it a second chance, eh?

I'm so happy that I found The Yule Log!

As my health has deteriorated and I've become more and more of a shut in, I feel like I've found a new circle of virtual friends here on The Log, whom I can visit from my daybed via my laptop.  You can't begin to know what a blessing you've all been to me.

Here's wishing you the best of everything in the coming year.  You deserve it!

You're welcome Will,

The only thing I really don't like about Windows Media Player is if I have ripped my vinyl albums to the computer, it searches the Internet for the artwork for each song and then I have to go back in and paste the actual album art that I scanned.  I then have to disable it from searching the Internet.  Also if you make a mistake and delete something from your library, but not from the disc and try to add it back, it won't let you so you have to go to the folder were the data is stored for the library and delete it all and start over so it can be a huge pain.  But it is one option for burning CD's if you don't have access to other software besides Nero.

Will,

We thank you for the kind words.  You have been a blessing to us as well.  Let me be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas for 2012 (nothing like getting a head start on the Christmas holiday,) success with your CD project, and a most heart felt wish for better health in the new year.

I don't think that ImgBurn can create a good dish of baked ziti, but it does just about everything well that has to do with burning CDs and DVDs.

There are many ways to erase a CD-RW disc with ImgBurn.  For instance:

Tools - Drive - Erase Disc - Quick or Full

or

Right Click on the drive selection box - Erase - Quick or Full

or

In Write mode, there is an icon of a CD with a red eraser (just under the drive selection with "Test Mode" next to it.)  You can click on that as well.

or

When you go to write to the disc, ImgBurn will prompt you to erase it if there is data on it.

There may be other ways, but that is a good start, eh?

What an amazing program!

Thanks for all the help, Perry.  You've made my day.  Heck, you've made my whole year (so far).

Too bad about the baked ziti, though.
