There was a Christmas program that aired from time to time during the holidays in the 70's and 80's that has not been shown for a long time. It was never to the best of my memory never aired on Ch.11. It was called "J.T." with Kevin Hooks. All to do with a black youth in a rural area who centers around taking care of a sick kitten. The program was recently found to be available on VHS at an unheard of price of $59.95 thru an independent company. Why this less than an hour program is so expensive I cannot say. But just the same,I still woudn't mind having a copy of it for my own collection. Just thought I'd share this memory briefly. The show DID have a Christmas theme to it by the way. GOODBYE!

This was a great special that first aired in 1969. I remember it well. It's a terribly poignant story, very well done.

It was available for a time from Carousel Film & Video, but I don't think it is anymore.

Three years later in 1972, Kevin Hooks also gave a great performance in the movie "Sounder," with Cicely Tyson and Paul Winfield.

I remember this very well.  It was a CBS Saturday kids theatrical special.  I had a flood of memories from this a few years ago, when the book was available via my daughter's book club at school.  I got it for her & she loved it.  I would love to have the movie, but $59.95 is too steep.

That's right Grinchy, the CBS Saturday series this special was a part of was actually called "The CBS Children's Film Festival." Weren't we fortunate that when we grew up programming like this was still in vogue?

Hopefully someday, J.T. will eventually be released for retail sale on DVD.

Thanks Grinchy, that's really cool. I never read the actual book; maybe I'll pick it up.

Years later in 1977, after I first saw J.T., we got a kitten that was the spitting image of the second cat in the story -- the one J.T.'s mother gave to him to replace the first one which was killed by the thugs in the neighborhood who were harassing him. Sadly, two years later our cat was hit by a car and killed.
