Dear Yule (B)Loggers,

I have exciting news to share with you.  This weekend I attended my friend's Choral Concert.  It was magnificent.  I simply can't brag enough about it.  The church where they performed was founded in 1791 which added atmosphere to the music being sung. The stone corridor created the most interesting performance acoustics ever.

Much to my surprise, they chose to sing a "Burt Carol" a/k/a Alfred Burt ("Some Children See Him"). If you remember, I posted awhile back about having sung the "Burt Carols" when I was in high school, and how much I just love them. Well, Knock me over with a feather!  They performed his Grand Niece's carol, "Run Toboggan Run". Abbie Betinis has written a number of Carols and they are being performed across the country.  She has been named by NPR as one of the "Top 100 Composers Under 40". She is also a three time cancer survivor.  How's that for carrying on a tradition of family Christmas Music!  Here is the website which includes the family history on the Burt's: http://www.abbiebetinis.com/index.html

I do love "The Yule Log" website and enjoy reading all of your posts. This season I want to encourage each of you to attend a Choral or Play or some type of Christmas Performance. It can be your local high school Christmas Show.  Something inexpensive.  Your local county website should list an arts council group. They should have posted a list of all the performances, times, dates, etc. Your friendly neighborhood Librarian will help you if you can't locate yours online.  Churches often have Christmas Music Performances and all they ask is for a small donation. Nothing in the $100's. These people sing, and perform because they take such joy in doing it.

I wish you peace, and the joy of the season
Holly N Ivy
