Since the main forums are being stupid and slow, I figured I should give an update on the Alphasmart problem encountered during the first write-in.
Firstly, only the Alphasmart adaptor worked; the direct PS/2 to USB adaptor thing did not, although I suspect that this could be due to the adaptor being a mouse one instead of a keyboard one.
When attached to the Alphasmart adaptor, the following was observed:
- Hooking it up to the mouse adaptor (the green one) produced nothing at all. - Hooking it up to the keyboard adaptor (the purple one) produced consistent gibberish.
This applied to both Alphasmarts (numbers 6 and 17). Therefore, I believe that the problem lies in the cabling, specifically the Alphasmart adaptor.
This also means that sans a solution, I'm going to have to transcribe all my stuff. At least the Alphasmart display is more readable than my handwriting.
Anyone know of any deals on an equivalent? I was intrigued by the Eee PC (especially since it came with a Linux variant), but apparently the battery life for the newer models (ie those likely to be in stores) is horrible.
