We were told that Valentines Day was a Catholic celebration of the massacre of the Huguenots & Waldensians.
Yet I find nothing to line those events up with the Waldensians and Valentines day.
That massacre is known as the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre, and occurred much later than February,  24 August – 3 October 1572.
So, were they fibbing to us, or can anyone point me to the link between the 14th of Feb, and this massacre?

I don’t know who “we” you are referring to but wouldn’t surprise me if it was from Revivalist teaching. However, here is a link to Catholic Encyclopedia, nothing to do with celebrating massacres.

The only Massacre associated with Saint Valentines Day was in 1929. Because mass murder was committed on  February 14, St. Valentine's Day of that year.

"On the morning of Thursday, February 14, 1929, St. Valentine's Day, five members of the North Side Gang, plus non-members Reinhardt H. Schwimmer and John May, were lined up against the rear inside wall of the garage at 2122 North Clark Street in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago's North Side…."
