Well, most of you know , but for those of you that don't there will be a club starting in the Jacksonville area. I have always said that Jacksonville has had a difficult time keeping a track going for whatever reason. That is NOT an excuse to quit trying. There are a lot of us who have felt burned in the past by the "club" aspect of Jacksonville, but the only way to really move forward is to try.We really need members in order to get the powers that be take us seriously. The city of Jacksonville seems very motivated to help us as long as we can show that we are organized, willing to go the distance, and have members in place to make this a great place to go. In the next day we will be posting flyers that will be the membership application. They should be in ALL of the shops in Jacksonville by the end of the weekend, and you should be able to pay the membership fee at any location. Our ultimate goal is to create a place that we all can be proud of. From the person who just wants to drive around the track to those who live for racing, as a member your voice will count. Some of the best friends I have ever had (or ever will have)have came from this hobby. I look at the other clubs around Florida/Georgia and ask "How come we can't have a club like that". Well we are going to find out what we, as a group are capable of. I thought a lot last night about all the different people we have in this hobby. Thinking about each of the background stories I have heard aboutand the first car stories, first race etc. One thing seems to be conisistant: for whatever reason we became involved in this hobby, it hooked us. No matter where we came from, how we got here, if we all put the focus to better our hobby, I think we can really make something of this. I do not think that I could have picked a better group of people dedicated to making our goals a reality. So for those of you who felt "burned" by the last go at this, I am asking you to try it one more time. Without the support of "Those Jacksonville Guys", we will never move forward. I know there are more of us out there, some just need to come out of retirement. Even if it is forone day tojoin up. If you are reading this post, consider it an invitation to join our club. I am/have been a member of several RC clubs at one time or another, wether I lived in the area or not. For those of you who already joined, thank you. Please feel free to contact me, or any of the board membershere, or by phone with any questions.

For those of you that missed the meeting I just want to disclose one of the topics of discussion that I felt was the highlight of the meeting. This process of forming a club and negotiating with the city of jax is a pretty serious deal. What we have setting in front of us for the taking is the opportunity to have a world class R/C facility here in Jax. This is  not a new concept here in our area which is made possible by the great city we live in. To be more specific the guys that are into airplanes have a top notch facility to enjoy when ever they like and it was made possible by people just like you and I with a bit of organization and motivation.

Imagine having the best R/C race facility in the south eastern U.S! People will drive for miles to run on it and R/C product manufacturers will sponsor large events here. So far Harry has done alot of the leg work and picked up where the last guy left off. It is a fact that the city is supportive of this project and will help make this a reality but we have to band together and drive it home. It's not going to happen over night and there are some stipulations that we have to satisfy to move to the next level. There are no if's or maybe's here folks it's pretty much there for our taking and all we have to do is jump through a few hoops, dot a few i's and cross some t's and it ours.

If we stick together for the long haul you will have over the next couple of years a R/C racing facility that will rival all others in this state and a few others i'm sure.

So step up and be heard (membership required).... :-)

I'm going out of town for the weekend, but next week will stop by HJarry's and join the club. I will try to be at the meeting as well. Also was just looking at the form. Do you have to be a roar member?

You do not have to be a roar member to join JRCCC, although it would be a good idea to join as we get farther along. Club races will not require a ROAR membership, but since we are going to be affiliated and hopefully have ROAR sanctioned races, then in order to race those races a ROAR membership will be required.  That is a little farther off at this time. We are more concerned about getting the club member numbers up.

Its actually off New Berlin Rd, right pass the  power plant . There's a road off to the right side of the road, take it about 600ft and then there a big open area.

I was thinking the same thing Travis. I never knew the guy but I was thinking to myself that it would be neat to name the complex or track after him sort of as a memorial to remember what he was working to create for us and that he basically laid the foundation for this.

I was not going to mention it because I do not know enough about him or his role in the area for R/C and what not but seeings how you brought it up!

Harry and Aaron, I am not sure how many First Coast members are still around and remember this but the city councilman that covered the area where we used to be and booted us out, Lake Ray,  promised the club $50,000.00 to rebuild when another location was found. He is an ass so it won't be easy to get it but hound him and get that money from him. There was tons of money spent at the old facility that he took away from us and this was his way of reimbursing all that was spent. I don't remember many names of the folks we were dealing with but if I can be of any help, remember I live in Mobile Alabama now, call me and I will do what I can. I don't remember his name but he is an older black man that raced dirt oval, he was a close friend to Alan and his wife and after Alans passing he recieved from Alan's wife all of the information that Alan was working on, including the bi-laws that were written for River City R/C club that we were using as a guide to form ours. Someone that reads this will know his name and how to get in touch with him. He took the information and sat on it that is why nothing else ever transpired from Alan's work. Also Councilman Warren Alverez which is in the district that you are looking at putting this track agreed to match Lake Ray's $50,000.00 contribution, so I would hit him up for it also. Alverez has a 356 acres park his is trying to get funding to build so he may be out of the question now but I would still try. My cell # is 251-545-5277 if I can fill in any blanks to questions you guys may have.

By the way, even though I am not around anymore, I still beieve that it would be great to name the facility the "Alan Elder Memorial R/C Park". Although he could be a pain in the butt he really was a great guy and put more effort into organized R/C racing in Jacksonville than most of us combined....also part of the information that the "Black dirt oval racer" (since I can't remeber his name) had was a professional conception drawing of the Park including dirt oval, offroad, paved oval and onroad with one driverstand inbetween usable from either side. It had concessions and restrooms also that the city liked and all but approved.

Great stuff.

An asphault oval/onroad track might really tie it all together and help get funds? If anyone needs contact info for local oval guys LMK. I can get that hooked up stat.

HIs name is Willie Shipman. I have not talked to him in years, since the old Cars, Planes and Trains track. He is still around cause he did come out to Jeff's track when he was building it.

Thanks for all the information Don. We would love to have you back around. I am sure we will have something for Alan with the new park.

No problem guys I wish you the best in getting this organized, the city in the past talked big stuff until it came down to actually doing anything. Aaron you are right it is Willie Shipman, don't trust him much and anything that he says he will do for you , he won't, but if you know him already you knew that. I updated my profile to reflect my cell number here in Alabama so call me if I can answer any questions you may have.

I haven't been on here for a while.  It's good to hear about the possiblity of a city owned r/c park, again.  I was a member of First Coast track at Lone Star, when they had dirt oval, off road and concrete tri-oval.   I currently race oval and touring at the HW track so keep us in mind too.

This facility is and will be about the members. We would like to have as many members as possible. That being said, there will not be "If you build this we will join B.S."  If you join, then you have a say in how everything is done.  Our first project will be to bring in what is hot, which is nitro offroad racing to Jacksonville. If all goes well, then there would be plenty of room to entertain other aspects of radio controlled racing/driving. We would like to please everyone, but I would be lying if I said we could do that, especially right off the bat.

The "club" is just that: a group of people passionate enough about bringing a track to Jacksonville. Notice there is nothing in our name about what type of vehicles we are running. The club name can eaisly span the entire R/C community. At this time whatever your interest, we just really need interest  and your support in bringing a facility to Jacksonville.

I've got my eye on an R/C front end loader.... maybe we can use it to build the new track?

If not maybe we can start a new class for these and race them?

Thats probably not the best reply to give a potential new member who asks a question.  Especially if you are trying to drum up support.

I will probably join anyway though, even if my question about a dirt oval was "bullshit".   Since i cant make the meetings because i work on thursday nights here is my one suggestion.  You could have a dirt oval track around the outside of the offroad track and if they shared the same front stretch you would only need one drivers stand and one timing system for the two tracks.

Let me see if i can clear the air. First, this will be a r/c complex for all of Jacksonville. Since we just lost our off-road track on Sunbeam Rd, we will build a new off-road track first, as far as putting a oval in that track design, I think that could be done. I have also been contacted by the drag race club in town, they will be joining our club with the thought of getting a drag strip built. with the use of spectrum in most radios now, and with proper scheduling.everyone should be able to enjoy the track when they what to. First things first, we need members. next meeting this thursday, 7pm. please bring your membership forms if you haven't turned one in yet. thanks, harry

Oval and offroad don't go together. If we are looking at building a top notch offroad track than you cannot have a oval going around the track. We did this oval thing at first coast and never had a oval race on it. But you oval guys say that there are alot of oval guys out there to race but when we put the oval in and around the track....Where were the oval guys.  There is plenty of land that the city is offering us that at a later time we could build a oval " for the two guys that come out" and that would be money well spent by the club.
