This week I have been receiving calls from the internet, that I am suspicious about, yet these seem real. They seem to be calling Dell ordering a couple of computers, need it overnighted (because its urgent). The ammount comes up to $6400. inbound provides a few credit cards, asks Dell to split the total amongst the cards. Dell agrees, all card nbrs are similar, except the last 4 digits are different. Inbound gives email for tracking. A US name/address/fone nbr is given. There is no long pause between responses.

Are these calls legit? Or am I being a little to paranoid?

That's a pretty common scam call pattern.

Seen that one a hundred times, although they do usually prefer smaller computer dealers.  I'd say with 99.9 percent certainty that you had a scam call there.

I saw 3 "yes i can come into the store to pick it up" money order scams today. Saved the numbers so I can call them back, because it's a lot less obvious than "can u send to nigeria via usps qq gagagaga"

they say they ll come in and pick it up but you can be sure ups will be the one picking it up.  they ve even gone as far as renting storage space to ship the stuff to, of course paying the storage fee with a stolen credit card.  i tell the voice that the call has disconnected and then tell the nigerian we don t deal with thieves...which stolen credit card will you be paying with today...blah blah blah.

I've definetely noticed these scammers changing tactics dramatically recently.  Let me list the stand-out changes.

1.  Because they're using Instant IP, there are few long pauses.  They also know that there are rogue opr's that will disconnect them if they take too long.  I see them being a little quicker.

2.    I have DEFINETELY noticed the whole thing where they give out 4 different credit cards where the first 8 digits are the same, they all have the same exp date, and only the last 4 digits are different.  I still dont know how or where they get these cards, but that was very odd.

3.  They are now claiming to be deaf.  They out-and-out say "I'm deaf" and claim that they cannot use a regular phone, hence, not having a phone nbr, only an email addy.  THAT just pisses me off, and I refuse to voice it.

4.  They have started calling catalogue places.  U know, those obscure catalogue places that send out what I think of "Junk Mail" and the catologue places are almost predictably unaware of the nigerian relay scams.

Those are the ones that stand out to me.  I know there are more, but I just cant think of them tonight, past my bedtime        operatorhere

ok dateline did a piece on this too. ordering electronics esp. computers are big money of course. and big scams like this one. you know all the 'loves' they get on online dating sites and also con them into sending money ? well they also con them into receiving these illegit packages(purchased with stolen american credit cards) for them at their (u.s.) address and THEN sending those packages to NIGERIA. why DELL doesn't investigate this stuff is beyond me, I guess they are too big of a company?Text to be set font.Text to be set font_color
