Yeah not sure if there are any other Verizon ops on here, but if so, what do you guys think of being bought out by Nordia/GoAmerica?

I hope they let us continue to disconnect fraud... that's all I can say.

Well, since my center is no longer needed by the new masters, I guess Im not all that thrilled. As one of the ops with no conscience (if your dumb enough to belieive these scams are legit, I cant feel too bad) I actually enjoy my job for the most part. Mainly, i dont want to go through the hassle of finding another job with similar hours, pay, and benefits. Considering my previous employers, Verizon did well by me, and I would have been reasonably content staying there for a while.



What Im wondering is, are any other center s closing? A sup told me we would not get shut down in the sale because the new corp would need the ops and the center to handle the increased call volume they would take. Anyone know any more about this?

Wow, Madison, that sucks. Yeah, according to what we were told the only centers that are going are TN and CA, All the rest are either sold or being closed. I'm also one of the "if you're stupid enough you deserve it" ops and I can't imagine just being told randomly not to come to work in a few months.

$%*'`[SometimesOpr]%*'`@Condolences to Madison and the other centers getting closed down. We all got hauled off into meetings yesterday to have the news broken to us. I think most people are worried about the whole similar pay / similar position vague "We're not telling you how bad you might get screwed but it's business as usual for now" speech we got.



On the plus side looking at Go America / Nordia's i711.com and having made a couple of calls through it to see how it is, the operators there seem alot more relaxed, far less transparent, and were actually willing to talk to me. I would hope some of that rubs off into the transition.

I work for Go America / Nordia's i711.com.  We just started with the ip relay calls from verizon.  I've been reading a lot of junk about verizon calls, and how they "paid" Nigerians to use their service.  We put a filter on, and NO IP RELAY CALLS come in...Makes you think...We are amazing operators at Nordia, and glad you liked your calls with us!

  Screw you, We're losing our jobs because of Nordia stopping those calls. Yay no more frauds but Boo over 700 people losing their jobs.

 I am a current employee working for Nordia/i711. Im losing my job in a couple of months due to our offices being moved to the philippines. I am kind of pissed but at the same time since we were affiliated with Verizons IP relay I couldnt be happier. Although IP relay prank calls are a lot more original and funny than i711 prank calls...I just feel most of their traffic is all fraud/pranks. I would love to see how the philippines handle those calls. They dont understand english and can barely type fast enough. Its the most ridiculous project I have ever heard of. Anything to save a buck. I just feel bad for the deaf community.
I did enjoy working at Nordia, the environment was very relaxed...aside from some ridiculous rules and such.

  Wow, how racist of you. And how lowly you think of i711. You think they'd just hire anyone just to save a buck? Think again. I am an i711 employee myself and I am here in the Philippines, so yes, I'm a Filipino. My typing speed is that of an average Filipino IP Relay Operator, 80 WPM. With 100 percent accuracy. Others can type a hundred to 200 words per minute. Here in the Philippines, the requirement is at least 60 WPM. That's fast typing already, considering an average person can only type 20-30 WPM. I have a neutral accent, like what most broadcasting companies require of newscasters, for example, so that they could be understood clearly by EVERYONE. Sure, there are those who are having trouble grasping the English language, but mind you, not all Filipinos are as incompetent as you think. Also, not every Filipino who applies for the job goes home with a contract. SO you can relax, those who are in the deaf community are in good hands. People like me are working for i711, not just any street urchin you find under your nose.
