Re :   Mammogram call back

Hang in there!  We have been there.  Most likely it is only dense tissue.  The hard part is just the "waiting"!  I wish they could just look right then and there the first time. :)  Let us know how your test goes.  I feel good about your results.  Remember...you are not alone!!!!!!

Re :   New here and scared

Anxiety can do just about anything. Once I actually ran a fever from anxiety. No joke. I htought I had lupus and was reading the symptoms...within hours I had all the symptoms and was running a fever. I have worried myself into waking up in the middle of the night with an ominous symptom.
I remember doing the night sweat thing when I was in my 30's and now I am 51 and still haven't reached menopause.
Hang in there

Re :   Unsure

Hi Alexia, Welcome! I totally understand how you feel as I have been obsessing over health my whole life. lately I have come to understand it as general anxiety that is always looking for a place to land. I think it is genetic. My sister (who was not raised with me) also suffers from it and is actually worse off than me. I tend to get an idea in my head that is fearful and then just obsess endlessly. Prozac helps me about 60% I would say. I have to take meds to sleep.
Good luck..you are not alone.

Topic :   Unsure

Hi, if this isn't where I'm supposed to post I apologize I'm pretty unfamiliar with all of this because I just joined about five minutes ago, but I will get the hang of it sooner or later. I found out about this site when I googled hypochondria since it's something I suffer from too. Maybe if I give this a shot it can help me, and I can help out other people who over-worry about their health too. I worry I have multiple sclerosis or a brain tumor constantly to the point where it consumes my thoughts. On the outside I seem like a normal human being but no one knows my internal dialogue. I feel pretty nuts because I know people around me aren't worrying all the time like I am. But I guess people in here might be, so that is definitely reassuring to say the least. It's about time I got some relief from this, and I bet talking to some people going through the same thing as me - confronting with the same feelings and worries - will allow me to feel less critical of myself and get through this. Please feel free to contact me. :-)

xoxo

Re :   Mammogram call back

I googled call back and ended up here. I had my first mammogram yesterday, and was asked to come in next Monday for more pictures. Like all of you, I got a rotten feeling in the pit of my stomach. I work at a school that teaches nuclear medicine and went to talk to one of the instructors. She said, like someone else on this board, that one in 10 people is called back, and it is usually just dense breast tissue or calcification. She said not to worry (hah!), so I am trying to put it out of my mind. I am 54 and she said that if it was the first, there is nothing to compare it to. I will post after, but offer my  prayers to the rest of the stressed!

Re :   Mammogram call back

Oh great! I think of all the time spent with worry, its terrible! But yes, thank God all went well for us today! I too feel blessed and will keep all in my thoughts and prayers who deal with anxiety and fear and just all around lifes hardships. Its true that sometimes in the worst of times, you will meet someone who is first just a stranger, but who knows what they really can mean in your life. Its why everyday I try to treat all like my own sister..we never know what another is going through..Thank you too Lisa! *hugs* now, lets relax and enjoy the things we may have missed due to worry... keep in touch.

For the lady who posted at 1:23, I hope to hear from you again...

Re :   Mammogram call back

Had my call back today. (1:30)  It went well!  Good news...just dense breast tissue.  I am so relieved.  I was shaking in my boots (literally) when she was taking the additional films.  She told me not to be scared.  A lot of women are asked to come back for many reasons.  I praise God that my results went well and I pray for every woman past & present who come or who will come to this board.  Remember, many are called back. Your chance of everything being a-ok are great!  Try not to worry. (easier said than done) :) Everything will be fine!  The hardest part is the waiting and fear of the unknown.  Pray and reach out to others.....like u are doing now!  Thanks Marie for being a strong supporter.  Will keep in touch!

I forgot to ask, can you call who ordered your Mammo and tell him to find out the reason for your call back?

Re :   Mammogram call back

I had to go back for a retake because breast tissue can be dense in areas and may look like something abnormal, but there are alot of abnormal things that can read in a mammo and be benign. Its great you get your testing, and Im sure things will be fine for you, hang in there! *Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers* and I am so very sorry for the loss of your parents...I too lost Mom to bone cancer... but they never really leave us do they? Let us know how you make out!

Re :   Mammogram call back

You will too Lisa! I had a best friend in high school by the name of Lisa. Somehow we were meant to meet..or, it is my belief anyway! I do have our extended family for Thanksgiving Dinner each year...this yr. I planned to play Bingo and was in the middle of looking for fun "presents" as prizes. Last year we made a Christmas ornament after dessert...so yes..its back to planning again. Its near 1:30 and I know you are close to your visit ... waiting to hear from you!

Re :   Mammogram call back

You are so right!  The anxiety does come in waves.  Well put.  Ugh...only a few more hours (1:30pm)  I wonder what it will be like?  The waiting room, waiting for my name to be called, the actual test, the ultrasound, and finally the results.  Well, if anything we will be stronger after this ordeal has passed.  If it were not for my faith in the Lord I would be a basket case.  That is what I am pulling from. Well, I am still worried, but it could be a lot worse, I guess.  hee.hee.  God bless.

Re :   Mammogram call back

Hi
I'm 48 and have been getting mammograms since 40.  Went for my annual and got a call 2 business days later.  Went in the following Monday and had an additional mammogram and ultra-sound.  The doctor said that they saw a very small mass on the mammogram.  It did not show up on the ultra-sound.  The doctor stated that in that case what they wanted to do was a stereotactic biopsy.  You lay on a table and the breast protrudes throug a hole.  They numb the area and make a small incision.  They go in with a needle, leave a clip to mark the area and take a sample.  It does not hurt.  I also went through the same ordeal with being told the appointment would have to be in three weeks.  Because of doctors on vacation and at conferences.  Wait for 3 weeks not knowing if the mass was benign or cancerous?  And let it grow?  While you're on vacation?  Long story short, I called other hospitals and was able to get a faster appointment.  I called back, and requested my records.  They had me in within the week.  The mass is benign.  They want to see me in 6 months.  I would like to think that if the mass was cancerous the fact that I had a mammogram and caught it early would have saved my life.  So I will continue to go even though there is a fear of a call back.  The reason I am posting is because this message board gave me some relief.  I also kept myself very busy.  The more stories I read, the better I felt. I want to pass on what I learned to anyone who might benefit.  Please keep this board going.
