I noticed last night when I got out of my car that I had a tender spot on my calf. It's not swollen or hot, but it hurts to barely even touch it. There is no bruise anywhere in sight, no pimples, no infected hair poresand noingrown hairs in that area. SO, naturally I think it's a blood clot just waiting to break loose. Has anyone ever had a tender spot show up somewhere, especially on the leg or calf, for no particular reason? I'm terrified to even rub on it or touch it too much for fear that it's a clot and the manipulation will make it break loose. It feels like a bad bruise, but there is no bruising on the skin. And now that I think about it, it seems like I've had this problem before in the exact same spot. So if it has been there for a while, I wonder if I should be even more concerned????Why can't I just be "normal"?\~Anna

Hi Anna.  I think this happens when you pull a muscle without realizing it.  This can happen if you wear shoes that have flat bottoms, or high heels.  Shoes that don't give the correct support.  This can put too much wear and tear on the muscles in your calf.  My Dad had a blood clot in his leg once and it was severely painful, without touching it.  I'm sure that's not what you have.  Try putting an ice pack on it a few times and see if it settles down.  Don't worry about not being "normal".  Think of HA as a "normal disorder".  You are not alone.  Glad you joined the board.  Val.

My blood clots hurt pretty badly without touching them at all.  After having clots in my legs, I started paying attention to every little pain in the calf, and I had some false alarms, because sore spots and pain in the calf are actually pretty normal.   If it has been there for a while, that is good news.  Clots either lyse and stay there and dissolve or break off and cause lots of trouble that is immediately evident.  Unless you have a big risk for clots such as:  very recent surgery, you RECENTLY started a birth control or hormone pill, you took a VERY long flight, or you have some sort of strange family history, it is VERY unlikely you'd just develop a clot.  Most people you hear about who suddenly have clots have more than one thing happening, usually it is one of the above risk factors combined with a blood disorder, and the blood disorders aren't common and most aren't even a big deal unless the above risk factors apply.  Take care, hope that was a little helpful.

This might sound a strange question but you haven't been sitting with your leg pressed against something have you and don't realise it??

I spent weeks and weeks worrying about my leg because a big area on the side of my calf was very sore to the touch just like a big bruise but nothing to see and it kept coming and going. One day I realised that I had a habit of wrapping my lower leg round the chair leg whiched pressed on the area and if i sat like that for a  couple of hours the next day and for about three days after it would be very sore but nothing to see. I only realised what I was doing when one day both legs hurt in same place which made me think it was something I was doing rather than any disorder and when I then wrapped my legs around a chair leg I yelped with pain!

I also get random painful spots anywhere on my body for about 48 hrs then they go away bit like the beginning of shingles but never is and I have had this from a teenager and am now 45 and never had a reason medically for it.
