RESULTS FOR 5-19

Six Grand Reasons

BRP Media

Top Gun Sprint Cars, Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks, Barfield Law Group Mini Stocks, and Rent-N-Roll Gladiators battled for points and cash on Night Of A Thousands.

Hobby Stocks started the night off with a 20 lap battle. Devin Walker spun to avoid Trevor Gamble’s rare spin as Howard O’Steen, Mark Maresca, and Don Woosley led the field. Just 1 lap later Kyle Morse got loose and after contact with Ronnie Whitley he smacked the wall ending driver #82’s night. As the laps wound down it looked as if O’Steen had it but with just 4 to go the 88H broke ending the strongest run of his career. Rodney Wright took the win as Darran Jackson, Chad Scranton, Mike Stalnaker, and Mark Maresca completed a solid top 5.

The Scorpion Racing Products Modifieds were 2nd and a good show it was. Larry Mott spun on lap 1 from 2nd and took Scott Mooers, Kyle Bronson, Chuck Gustafson, Jr., Ronald Soltis, Mark Whitener, Jim Passino, Jeff Mathews, and Garret Stewart with him. The damages for Stewart, and Gustafson were terminal. However, Dalton Lanich was leading with Passino and Tyler Clem giving chase. Lanich started to pull away but slowly making ground was Buzzie Reutimann. On lap 11 Scott Mooers took the 10 around in turn 3 giving Reutimann and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. the position to make the move on Lanich. With 5 to go the yellow flew for Jeff Bagent setting Reutimann up with the lead as Lanich and Lloyd gave chase. Those 3 stayed that way while Ronald Soltis edged Rich Pratt out for 4th.

Just as Dave Slaviak had the Top Gun Sprints up to speed Brandon Grubaugh had troubles in the G6 and brought the caution out. Terry Witherspoon tried to make a move on the leader and ran him over. Matt Kurtz inherited the lead while Witherspoon got P2 back and Mean Gene Lasker was 3rd. Rich Alexander lost the left rear wheel on lap 10 and he took Scott Anderson with him. Kurtz, AJ Maddox, and Witherspoon restarted in that order.

With 5 laps to go Tony Agin put the 38 in the wall ending his night; Kurtz, Maddox, and Danny Martin, Jr. ran 1-2-3 as time ran out setting up a 2 lap thriller. Terry Witherspoon violently flipped on the backstretch as the race ended with Kurtz the winner over Martin. The race went back to lap 21 as the wreck stopped most of the field. Witherspoon climbed from the 99 as soon as they put it back on all 4 wheels. AJ Maddox took 3rd, Mark Ruel, Jr. 4th, and Colin Cabre 5th.

Rent-N-Roll Gladiators were 4th out and Brandon Haseleu took the early lead; it would not last however as he spun on lap 3. The lap 13 caution saw Jim Shaw hit the wall as Billy Holmes, Tony LaPorta, and Reid Christensen battled for P1. LaPorta fell to 3rd as Christensen beat him to 2nd while Holmes won. Ray Hunter and Steve Cox completed the top 5.

The first 9 were green in the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks but Alan Lane changed that when he spun out of turn 4. He also helped bring out a lap 11 caution. As Jonathan Appleby led Shane Nichols and Chad Scranton fought to beat him. Mark Trexler lost the left rear with 2 to go setting up the Green White Checkered. Appleby made it 2-for-2 while Scranton beat Nichols for 2nd. Brian Mullins and James Sullivan, III completed the top 5.

On lap 9 Nick Kerr went around after a tough battle with the Staats family. Meanwhile Shirlene Hammond was on another continent up front. The final 2 lap dash was set up when Cody Kinsey found himself around in turn 1. No one could stop Shirlene Hammond as she easily won over Charlie and Travis Staats, Reid Christensen, and Nick Kerr.

Next Saturday will officially end the first third of the 2012 season as the RaceCar Engineering Late Models get 1 last warm-up before the Powell Memorial. Buddy's Home Furnishings Limited Late Models join them as do the 1-800-ASK GARY Thunderstocks in a Double feature event! Re :   Citrus County Speedway

RESULTS FOR 5-19

Gorham Jr and Darvalics top 50 lappers
at Citrus County Speedway

Citrus County Speedway fans were treated to a pit area filled with 96 cars and 180 laps of racing action Saturday night. Headlining the nights events were the Florida United Pro-Truck series and Sportsman 50 lap feature events. The nights events got started with qualifying for the Sportsman and Pro-Truck divisions. 19 Sportsman and 22 Pro-Trucks took their best shot at the time clock. When the dust settled, Patrick Thomas (25) turned in a blistering 14.35 second lap to take the fast qualifier money in the Sportsman division, and Steve Darvalics (41) took top honors for the Pro-Trucks with a fast lap of 14.83 seconds.

After qualifying, the top 12 qualifiers for the Sportsman race would draw pills for their starting positions for the 50 lap feature. 8th qualifier Dennis Neighbor Sr (83) would have lady luck on his side and draw the pole position, starting alongside would be 4th fast qualifier George Gorham Jr (10). Fast qualifier Thomas would draw the 9th starting position, and find himself fighting his way to the front from the middle of the pack. Gorham would take control of the race at the green flag, beating Neighbor Sr to turn one. Gorham Jr would pull out to a comfortable lead while everyone else was left chasing the leader. Lap 7 saw Patrick Thomas charge the front come to an end, contact with another car would send Thomas spinning to the infield.

Caution would fly, and Thomas would retire with a broken rear gear. Gorham Jr would survive 3 more late race cautions to take a wire to wire victory in his Billy Barstow owned machine. Behind Gorham Jr, 4th place starter Mike Bell (17) ran a distant 2nd for the last 43 laps of the event after qualifying in the 5th position. Coming home in the 3rd position was 2nd fast qualifier Lance Daubach. Point leader Jay Witfoth was the biggest mover of the race, coming from his 17th starting position, to a 6th place finish at the checkered flag. Witfoth has now increased his points lead to 27pts over 2nd place Chris Harvey (51), and 32pts over 3rd place Andy Nichols (66).

19 Pro-Trucks were brought to the green by pole sitter Jessica Murphy (26) and Jason Rendell (5). Rendell would jump out to the early lead, and pull away until a lap 9 caution would bunch up the field for a restart. Pro-Trucks series rules call for double file restarts, just like the NASCAR boys. Rendell would chose the bottom lane, flanking him to the outside was the new 2nd place runner, and 5th fasted qualifier, J R Garcia (13). Rendell would spin his tires badly on the restart, and Garcia would sneak by on the outside to take the lead. 4th place starter Gerald Campbell (2x) would soon pressure Rendell, and take away the 2nd position. Lap 17 saw the next caution for a 3 truck incident, and erase the lead Garcia had built. Garcia would jump out to the lead on the restart, followed closely by Campbell, and fast qualifier Darvalics (41) in 3rd.

Garcia would maintain a comfortable lead on the restart, while Campbell now faced heavy pressure from Darvalics. Darvalics would finally find the traction he needed, and move my Campbell for the 2nd spot with only 10 laps remaining in the 50 lap event. Garcia would prove to tough to catch, and go on to take an apparent victory ahead of Darvalics in 2nd, and Campbell in 3rd. Once the top 5 trucks reached post race technical inspection, Garcia was found to have an illegal crankshaft in his motor, which resulted in his disqualification from the nights events. With all other top 5 trucks passing inspection, Darvalics was award the victory with slightly less fan fare in the tech area. This would also move Campbell to 2nd, and Danny Anderson (50) to 3rd.

11 Street Stocks saw Curtis Flanagan (3) move by Dora Thorne (48) for the lead on lap 5 from his 5th starting position. Behind Flanagan, Thorne, Kenny May (10) and Bubba Martone (98) would battle it out for the 2nd through 4th positions. When the checkers would fly, Thorne would hold on to the 2nd position, and Martone would make a last lap pass to take the 3rd position over May. Joey Bifaro (121) and John Chance (61) were your heat race winners.

15 Pure Stocks saw Karlin Ray (72) jump out to early lead from his front row starting position. 5th place starter Michael Martin (76) would move quickly to the 2nd position, followed by Eugene Malvern (123) in 3rd. Ray was out front cruising when lapped traffic pinched him into the front stretch wall at lap 16. The break in momentum allowed 2nd place Martin and 3rd place Malverty to move by Ray for the lead on the inside. Lap 18 saw the battle for the lead get a little rough as Malverty would make contact with the rear of Martins machine exiting turn 4. Martin would go for a spin, and the caution would fly. Malverty would take blame for the incident, giving Martin the lead back, and sending himself to the rear of the pack. Martin would now have to survive a 2 lap shootout over the young and hungry Ray, and new 3rd place runner Tyler Stickler (9).

Martin brought the field to green, and Ray went to work right way, making an inside pass off turn 2 to retake the lead. Ray seemed to be head to his first ever feature win, but the last lap saw a chain of unlikely events. As the field took the white flag, Mike Hinde (142) spun near the rear of the pack in turn two, with the leaders coming to the checkers, the caution was displayed with the checkers just yards from the finish line. Ray would then also spin to the infield after the caution had been thrown, but everyone raced back to the finish line. It appeared that Tyler Stickler (9) was your winner after all of the last lap chaos. Cars exited the speedway, thinking the race was over.

Track official decided the caution was out before the leader took the checkered flag, and ordered the cars to realign for a one lap shootout. Ray would be your leader, followed by Martin in 2nd, and Stickler in 3rd. Ray would rocket away on the restart, and go on to take his first ever feature victory at Citrus County Speedway. Stickler would get by Martin on the last lap for 2nd, with Martin settling for 3rd at the stripe. Malverty and Hinde were your heat race winners.

15 Mini Stocks saw Jeremy Sharrone (32) move by Shannon Kennedy (46) for the lead on lap 11 of their 20 lap feature. Sharrone would go on to take his 6th feature win of the 2012 season. Kennedy would hold onto 2nd just ahead of a hard charging Austin Jenkins (43) in 3rd. Heat race winners were Kennedy and Kristin Clements (5).

14 Pro Figure 8’s all challenged the dangerous intersection for their 20 lap feature. Michael Cherry (1) would take his new ride to the early lead, followed closely by Eric Sharrone (32). Sharrone would put pressure on Cherry for the lead, and looked to have the fastest car on the speedway. Sharrone would attempt an inside pass for the lead heading into turn 3, but the top two drivers would run out of room entering the corner. Sharrone would make contact with Cherry, and spin to the infield. With neither driver wanting to take blame, both were sent to the rear for the restart.

This left 7th place starter Wayne Calkins (14) in the lead, with Cody Stickler (25) in 2nd, followed by Justin Meyer in 3rd. On the restart Calkins would pull away, and Stickler would suffer a flat right front tire, which caused him to drop out of contention. Behind Calkins, Joey Catarelli had made his way to the 2nd position, just ahead of Thomas Peet (85) in 3rd. Calkins would receive no real challenge over the final 6 laps, and went on to take his 1st feature win of 2012, following up his 2011 division championship. Catarelli would come home a solo 2nd just ahead of Peet in 3rd.

This week will see the return of Super Late Models to Citrus County Speedway. With the Florida United Promoters late model series coming to town on June 2nd, you can bet some of the states hot shoes will be in town to tune up for the 100 lap event. Joining the Super Late Models will be the Modified Mini Stocks, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Hornets, and the Street Stock figure 8’s. Come on out and enjoy a great night of racing action at your local speedway!

Re :   Auburndale Speedway

Boy, 12, flown to area hospital after racing crash
at Auburndale Speedway

by Jennifer Moore

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - A 12-year-old boy suffered critical injuries in a crash at Auburndale Speedway.

According to spokesperson Donna Wood, it happened at approximately 7:45 p.m. during a kids race.  Tyler Morr, of Arcadia, was driving a car, and there were five other vehicles on the track.

During the second turn, the boy's car reportedly collided with another car - then hit the wall.

Both drivers were the sole occupants of their vehicles at the time of the crash and both were harnessed and wearing helmets. The vehicles were reinforced inside as is common with standard race type cars.

Both vehicles are non-registered modified cars built strictly for race track operation. Speeds of vehicles involved in the crash are estimated to be no more 40-45 mph.

Wood says the boy was first airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, but then flown to All Children's Hospital once he was stabilized.

A statement on Auburndale Speedway's website says Saturday's races were canceled after a "tragic accident occurred during our Kids Club heat race. Our thoughts and prayers are with Tyler Morr's, family and friends."

Morr is reportedly now in critical condition.

Polk County Sheriff's Office Traffic Homicide deputies are conducting a crash investigation.

Re :   Punta Gorda Speedway

RESULTS FOR 5-19

Pancoast and Morris remain undefeated

Sad news had lingered in the air all night as word of a member of the PGS racing family had been injured in a race at another track. Punta Gorda Speedway owners and staff continue to keep the Morr family in their thoughts and prayers. It was tough staying focused on the nights racing events but some great talent showed up to put on some of the best racing action.
First feature of the night was the Cowboy Cadillacs and Jeff Debble of Port Charlotte tried again to hold off Stuart Vandevender as they battled for the lead. Vandevender would go onto win the feature with Debble second and making his way to a third place finish was Brad Weigert in his 88 truck and Phil Ellis hung on for fourth.

T.Q. Midgets took to the track and saw Mike Belusar go start to finish while being chased by Jamie Barnum second and young Chris Gimmler third while Rob Kohler was fourth.

Pro 4 class got to qualify for a big forty lap featured event that saw the 73 of Randy Johnson from Bradenton set fast time of 18.814 and would start second row inside. The fifth caution had come out by lap eight when the 91 of Jessica Ostrovskis got tangled with the 87 of Skyler Null and both had to pit to change flat tires.

Ten laps were ran with no cautions as the 61 of Paul Richards Jr. had been leading while fast qualifier Johnson was fighting for second with the 04 of Ryan Collver. Johnson made his way pass Collver and by lap twenty one, had passed Richards on the outside to take over the lead for five laps. Ten laps to go Paul Richards Jr of Naples got back by Johnson and went on to win the feature while Randy Johnson was running in second got passed on the last lap by Ryan Collver who finished second and Johnson hung on for third. Dan Collver would fight his was to a fourth place finish while Skyler Null of N. Ft. Myers rounded out the top five.

Street Stock class was up next for a fifty lap feature and it was Ryan Pancoast of N. Ft. Myers that set fast time of 16.862 with only taking one lap to do it and was the only car in the sixteens. Pancoast pulled the lucky draw and started on the pole and the green flag dropped it was Pancoast that jumped to the lead over Tim Miller Jr. of Bradenton who started outside. Shane Leonard of Cape Coral was on Pancoast’s bumper running in second while “Big Dog” James Dellea of Port Charlotte was making his way through the field when a caution came out on lap ten. On the restart, Dellea made his way by Leonard to take over second and set his sights on Pancoast while a lot of “Rubbin is Racin” was going on for position behind them. Leonard had made his way back around Dellea as they battled hard back and fourth while Pancoast was in the lead and now Bobby Fischer from Naples had joined the fight. Lap twenty nine, Leonard had to pit with a flat tire and would reenter the race on the end of the field. Cars lined back up it was Pancoast on the pole Dellea outside the green dropped and Pancoast was scored first over the line, could Dellea break Pancoast’s three wins in a row streak or would Pancoast be able to hold on. This class had racing action from front to back you didn’t know who to watch as all the cars were fast and the racing was fierce. When the checkers flew, it was Ryan Pancoast taking his fourth win in a row and James “Big Dog” Dellea second, Bobby Fischer third.

Late Model Sportsman came out for fifty laps and fast qualifier David Williamson of Mulberry with a 16.413 started inside second row. Sitting on the pole would be Brian Richardson of Cape Coral who had been taking some time off while building a new car with the twenty one of Devin McLeod (Legend car driver)of Zepherhills outside. After a few attempts of a good start, it took the flagman pointing the black sticks to the front row to finally get a good side by side start and the race was on. Richardson jumped to the lead but young McLeod was right there with only four laps in the books, McLeod broke a tranny going into one and would retire his 21 machine for the night. After several caution in the first ten laps, the race would run forty laps caution free and the battle between Richardson and David Williamson who was running on the outside kept everyone on the edge of their seat. Williamson at times was slinging that car out of the turns sideways while Brandon Morris made the pass for second and then muscled his way past Richardson on lap seventeen for the lead. Richardson was stuck on the outside while father David Williamson and son Aaron Williamson passed him for the seond and third spot. When the smoke clear and the checkers flew it was Brandon Morris that made it three in a row trips to victory lane while Aaron Williamson came home second, his father David Williamson third and Richardson fourth, Johnny Casady of Arcadia rounded out the top five.

The last race of the night would be the Road Warriors and it was Ann Marie Ricardi of Naples that would get the jump and lead the first five laps of the race. Chris Scott of Nakomis would make the move on Ricardi and take over the lead on lap six while Richardi was hung out to the ouside and slipped back to fifth. Rocket Rick Reed was in the second spot chasing down Scott while team mate Jason Miller was battleing with Chris Loney for third. Miller running in second and putting pressure on Scott for the lead as they battled for the last ten laps, white flag in the air, Miller makes the move on Scott to take the win on the last lap. Chris Scott would come home second, Chris Loney third and Ann Marie Ricardi would battle back for fourth place.

RESULTS FOR 5-19

Phillip Cobb Wins Late Model Feature Event
At East Bay Raceway Park

May 19, 2012 – Tampa, FL – Four divisions were on hand tonight to compete. Late Models were in action along with the Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers PLUS Fan Participation.

Before any feature events got under way, Fan Participation was first at Intermission. Fred Long was the winner in a new Camaro. Todd Ford’s brother-in-law, Aaron was runner-up.

First feature event went to the Street Stocks. Donnie Reed and Matthew Grissom won their heat races. Points leader Eric Moon and Justan Rodgers made up the front row for the start of the feature. On the start, Moon took the early lead, but on lap three, Grissom grabbed the top spot.

The first caution came out on lap nine as Dennis Wilson, Jr. spun in turn two handing fourth over to Billy Carlbert, Jr. Several more cautions came out before getting the final green flag. Moon made his move as Grissom moved up and allowed Moon to take the lead and the win picking up his third feature win of the season. Grissom finished second with Jeff Rodgers, Dennis Wilson charging back up to finish fourth and Carlbert, Jr. rounding out the top five.

Next up were the Limited Late Models. Scotty Williams and Forrest Gough won their heat races. On the front row for the feature it was Roger Crouse and Daniel Woody. When the green waved, Woody took over the top spot and never looked back and grabbed the win as the entire feature was caution free. Williams was second with Crouse, Gough and Shane Koperda rounding out the top five.

Next were the Late Models. Phillip Cobb and Dennis Williams won the heat races. John Norris and Todd Alexander made up the front row for the feature event. When the green waved, Alexander took over the top spot going into turn one, but Cobb quickly made his way to the front after starting in the sixth position. Cobb grabbed the lead on the next lap and went on to win the feature. “We have had a lot of bad luck this year leading races and then getting flat tires, so it feels good to be in Victory Lane tonight” he stated. Maverick Varnadore made his way through the field after starting last and finished second. Roger Crouse was third with Frankie Erskine, Jr and Dennis Williams rounding out the top five.

Last feature event went to the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers. George Handy, Bubba Puyear and Johnnie Alexander won their heat races. Jason Burnside and Johnnie Alexander started on the front row. Alexander took the early lead and seemed to have it under control, but after starting in the eighth postion, Robert Kissam charged thru the field and took over the lead on the very last lap picking up the feature win. Alexander finished second with Puyear third, Handy fourth and William Burnside rounding out the top five.

ASA Racing continues next week with the Late Models, Gagels Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Fours, Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and the Old Time Mods. For further information, log on to www.eastbayracewaypark.com or call 813-677-7223 for more information.

Select Tracks to Run Specific Ignition System Starting June 22nd

Effective June 22nd, via agreement of an elite group of seven Southern tracks, all Super Late Model and Pro Late Model teams will be required to use one specific ignition: Crane Cams Ignition Part #6000-6701.
This Part number will include the ignition box with adjustable rev limiter, coil and mounting plate.

New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld join with Five Flags Speedway (FL), Montgomery Motorspeedway (AL), Mobile International Speedway (AL) South Alabama Speedway (AL) and Gresham Motorsports Park (GA) in this agreement.

The ignition system will be required on all Super Late Models, including the Bright House Challenge Series, and Pro Late Models, including the Pro Late Model Challenge Series, effective June 22nd.

The Ignition System is available from Race Ready Parts (Tom Root 407-692-4725) located in the Pit Area of both New Smyrna Speedway and Orlando Speedworld.

For any questions, please contact FASCAR Competition Director Ricky Brooks at 850-324-6821.

Ricky Brooks stick your Crane Box where the sun doesn't shine.  You will not any kickback money from me buying their product.  If you think FASCAR this will help the car counts, boy are you nuts. Already know of 5 cars that will not come to your race, if Brooks can not figure out how to tech anyother boxes, you guys need another tech man. Because that guy sucks.

The Top Gun Sprint Series will return to Bubba Raceway Park Saturday, May 19 for the second Non-Wing event of the 2012 season.

The first Non- Wing event two weeks ago was a very close race with Matt Kurtz Passing Gene Lasker for the lead with one lap to go. Also a three way battle went on for third, fourth and five between Tim Grubaugh, Brandon Grubaugh and Ryan Partin, unfortunately the Grubaugh brothers were DQ for being lite after the feature.

The point battle after the first three races is very close with Mark Ruel Jr. 422, Danny Martin Jr. 418, Ryan Partin 416, Matt Kurtz 412 and Andrew Griffin 398 there are less than 100 point separating the top ten drivers.
Also racing this weekend will be the Open Wheel Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, V8 Thunderstocks, Mini-Stocks and Gladiators. The pit gate opens at 4:00pm, grandstands at 5:00pm and racing at 7:00pm.

RESULTS FOR 5-11

BUTTRICK CONTINUES DOMINANCE,
COLLECTS ANOTHER CHECKERED
IN 35-LAP SPORTSMAN SPECTACULAR

by Chuck Corder

Plenty of drivers in plenty of classes have etched their names into the abrasive asphalt at Five Flags Speedway. Perhaps no one is leaving the legacy of Steve Buttrick. The Cantonment driver added to his ever-expanding resume in the Sportsman division with another trip to Victory Lane on Friday at Five Flags. Buttrick made a nifty move by Shanna Ard for the lead on Lap 22 of the 35-lap Spectacular and ran away from the rest of the 13-car field. Ard, who led for most of the night, coasted home for second while defending track champion Brannon Fowler took home third. “Was a lotta fun driving it tonight,” Buttrick said. “The car was good.”

It has been that way for the last three years. Buttrick has posted nearly 25 victories in this class during that span, including capturing back-to-back Sportsman features at the annual Snowball Derby the last two Decembers. He flirted with his own track record in qualifying, but started sixth when he rolled the die to set the invert for the 12-car field. Buttrick wasted little time, reaching second by Lap 11. He pulled to the bumper of Ard and bided his time. Buttrick never forced the issue until, showing his nose several times but practicing patience rather than stubbornness. He finally passed Ard after going high in Turn 1 and then dive-bombing to the apron. Buttrick cruised by Ard on the back straightaway. “We were lucky to finish second,” Ard said. “I didn’t think I was going to make it on the start of the race.”

Modifieds

Chris Cotto was on a mission. He got out front in his brand new No. 17 on the opening lap and held off a charging Scooter Grice in the closing laps. Donnie Hamrac, who won the Modifieds opener last month, took third to maintain the points lead for the season “We were prepared this week,” Cotto said. Grice closed in on Cotto with four laps left. It seemed as if his early decision to lay back and save his stuff for the right was going to pay off. Grice nearly had enough, but Cotto beat him to the line by less than a car length. “I tried to make it a race at the end,” Grice said. “It was just a little too late. I couldn’t get it done this time; maybe next week.”

Super Stocks

Bubba Winslow couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate his 22nd birthday. The Cantonment driver and Super Stocks season points leader won for the second time in as many races. Randy Thompson finished second and John Shuffler in third. “We struggled a little bit on the Sportsman car, but we made up for it in this division,” said Winslow, who finished sixth in the 35-lap Sportsman Spectacular. Thompson got by Mike Moore for the lead on Lap 9, but he had little time to enjoy it. Winslow easily skated by Thompson moments later. “We’ve been working on this car and trying to get it better. I think we’re real close,” Thompson said.

Bombers

Gary Goodwin had his silver No. 23 on a rail. The defending track champ in the Bombers division collected his second checkered flag in a row. He assumed the points lead after Brandon Burks, who came into Friday atop the standings, blew a tire early on and did not finish the 20-lap feature. Leonard Craig Jr. did his late papa proud with a runner-up finish. “I think it might be rough (today) with rain, so I’ll get to sleep in,” said Goodwin, the charter boat fishing captain on the weekdays.

Having Burks and Goodwin start near the back of the pack, 11th and 12th respectively, made things interesting from the get-go. Goodwin jumped way to the outside as the green flag dropped and made it four-wide coming across. The start was waved off. So was the next one. Goodwin went from 12th to second in three laps and assumed the lead on Lap 4. Burks was on Goodwin’s bumper.

Then things literally fell off on Lap 6. Burks lost the right front wheel on the backstretch and had to pull it into the pits, as the tire bounded through turn Nos. 3 and 4. It was a crushing DNF for the former points leader. What made it double jeopardy is Burks’ nemesis, Goodwin, was out front. The other intriguing storyline of the night was the dynamite debut of dirt-track youngster Ryan Fowler. The rookie came from the tail-end all the way up to fifth with 12 completed laps, chewing up veteran drivers left and right. “It was my first time on asphalt, matter of fact,” Fowler said.

Orlando SpeedWorld & New Smyrna Announce Schedule Change

Due to scheduling conflicts, the Orlando Speedworld will be closed on Friday May 11th and Friday May 18th. The Bright House Challenge Series - Super Late Model race that was originally scheduled for Friday May 18th has been rescheduled for Saturday July 14th and has been moved to the New Smyrna Speedway. Orlando's previously scheduled events will resume on Saturday May 26th. The track apologizes for any inconvenience as these conflicts simply will not allow the facility to be opened on those nights.

FL Promoters Series @ Desoto 5/5

The FUP Series made their fourth stop of the year @ Desoto on Sat. night with 19 Super Late Models in the pits. This by far was the largest car count for the year. We want to thank all of the competitors that raced with us, all of the fans that attended.
With the support of John and his whole crew @ Desoto it was a step in the right direction to improve the car counts. We rasied the purse to $400.00 to start and still only had 19 cars but, we know it will take a few more races to get 25-30 cars in the pits for a FUPS Event. We also know that the tracks working together will help with car counts as well.
We will continue to work hard to make the FUP Series a highly respected traveling series here in FL. We can not do this alone it will take the racers, the fans, & the tracks for this to succeed. Once again thank you to all that have attended a FUPS Race this season and please make plans now for our next event @ Citrus Co. on June 2nd., you can also follow us @ www.floridaunitedpromoterslatemodelseries.com

See You @ The Races,
Rick Williams

Top Gun Sprints Race Report 5-5-12

The Top Gun Sprints made their third visit of 2012 to Bubba Raceway Park on Saturday May 5, 2012 and the first of the non-wing races. There were 17 cars at the track to give fans three heat races and a 25 lap feature race.

Danny Martin Jr. in the 82 car had the pole with A J Maddox in the 3A on the outside for the start of the BILSTEIN heat race. A J Maddox took the lead on the start and took the win. The 02 of Gene Lasker had the pole for the ROD END SUPPLY heat race, with Andrew Griffin in the 88 car on the outside. It was the 02 that made the better start and took the second heat win. Colin Cabre in the 12 car had the pole with Terry Witherspoon in the 99 for the start of the SCORPION heat race. Terry took the lead and the heat win.

The 88 of Andrew Griffin had the pole for the start of the SHOCK DYNO feature race event, with the 02 of Gene Lasker alongside. After a parade lap, the race went to green and it was Gene Lasker in the 02 car that took the lead. After a yellow flag, on lap 3 the 82 car of Danny Martin Jr. got together with another car and flipped in turn 1 bringing out the red flag. On lap 12 the 3A of A J Maddox made contact with back wall and ended his night. Then lap 24 Mark Ruel Jr. in the 83 had something break on the car coming out of turn 4 that set up for a green and white together on the restart the 92 of Matt Kurtz would do a slide job going into turn 1 and took the lead and the checkered flag, followed by Gene Lasker in the 02 car, Ryan Partin in the 14 car, Tony Agin in the 38 car and David Slawiak in the 79 car rounding out the top 5. SUSPENSION FOLLOWS AN INCIDENT UNDER CAUTION IN BLIZZARD RACE

Defending 5 Flags Speedway Pro Late Model Champion D.J. VanderLey of Mobile has been suspended from competition for the the remainder of the 2012 regular season. The suspension comes on the heels of Friday Night’s 100 Lap Blizzard Series event for Super Late Models. The action was taken by Track Management following an incident under a lap 96 caution flag period with fellow competitor Grant Enfinger.

“The actions chosen by D.J. VanderLey on Friday Night were absolutely unacceptable, and will not be tolerated,” stated Speedway General Manager Tim Bryant, “and we believe only a penalty this severe will let D.J. and all other competitors know how serious we are about this.”

VanderLey Releases Statement & Plans to Regroup With Off Time

Two-time Five Flags Speedway (FL) Pro Late Model Champion DJ VanderLey spoke to Speed51.com late yesterday evening and wanted to release the following statement after the penalty was handed out from the track on Monday following last Friday's incident in the Papa John's 100:

"First I'd like to publicly apologize to everybody involved in this altercation. I apologized to Grant and to the Braggs Friday night at the track. My actions were uncalled for and I shouldn't have acted the way I did. While I do not condone some of Enfinger's driving tactics as well, I took it too far. I have spoken to all my sponsors and my affiliates and they stand behind me and will support me in my future endeavors. We are going to take some time off to reevaluate our racing program and where we are headed. We started racing when I was only 5 years old, and from the very beginning we have done this as a family; we do it because we love it. It should never have come to this, and we will make sure that it never does again. I willingly accept the actions taken by 5 Flags Speedway dealing with this matter. I made my choice, and I am dealing with the appropriate consequences. I love being at the racetrack, and can't wait to get back out, but I need to get myself and my program back on track first. Lastly, I'd like to say thank you to all the people who stand behind me and support me. This is a rough spot for us right now, but we're not letting it get us down. We will come back better than ever. Thank you."

(FUPLMS Press Release: 4-12-2012)

Series Procedure Changes, and more for FUP Late Model Series!

The FL United Promoters Series announced some changes for the series today. "After listening to the competitors who have competed this season we felt that changes were needed to increase the car count" stated series director Rick Williams. "The racers have expressed their thoughts on the tire impound rule & the tracks opening early on Sat. morning making it a very long day".

"Starting with our next race on 4/21 at Desoto we will open the pit gate at noon. and there will be no tire impound. All tires will be checked for softness. The pit gates will open later to give teams that travel the option of coming Friday night or Saturday morning. The tracks will continue to have Friday night Test-n-Tune for all classes, please understand it is not mandatory for FUPS competitors to participate".

Another announcement from FUPS today is the cancellation of the May 4th race at Orlando SpeedWorld. "Track owner Robert Hart informed us today that they will not be hosting this event due to lack of fan participation and low car counts. FUPS will work to replace this event and hope to have a replacement race and date to announce soon. FUPS wishes FASCAR well moving forward".

The series is set for its next race coming Saturday April 21st at the Desoto Super Speedway. David Rogers was the winner of race #3 at New Smyrna on April 7th. We will have more information and updates as well as a race day schedule out next week.

Re :   THE GRANDSTAND

Putnam County Speedway Status Update
Press Release - Sunday, April 8, 2012

The 2012 track opening date has been delayed for approximately 2 months to secure final operating permits and to complete much needed repairs to the bathrooms and concession area.  All race fans will appreciate these necessary changes when completed.  We have postponed Saturday practices in April and May to get the majority of the work completed.   We are still awaiting several permits to get the track up and running and it has been very hard to anticipate approval dates. Once our opening date is defined, we will publish it on www.putnamcountyspeedway.com or you can call the track office at 386.649.6969.  You will also hear various radio adds and see print advertisements in your local communities.

For the drivers in 2012 we have removed the inside track wall, installed a new track surface, manicured the grounds and renovated the pit office.  Repairs to the tech center are also nearing completion.  Following installation of the new track surface we ran several practices to see how well the track was going to perform, and the response from the drivers has been fantastic.  As a final touch we will be applying a new coat of paint to the track walls and all of the buildings on the grounds. The newly painted track walls will be complete with numbered turns to assist in driver awareness.

For our fans, in addition to Saturday night racing, we are in negotiations for several special events such as a three-day Florida State Dirt Track Championship, Scott Hartsock's Monster Truck Jam, Team FMX Motorcross Stunt Show, Mud Bog Racing and local musical entertainment.

For our sponsors in 2012 we are adding new track signage and have prepared a new comprehensive sponsorship advertizing program.  If you would like to be a sponsor or advertise at the New Putnam County Speedway please contact Bob Helmick at 321.948.7553 or pennsboro1j@cfl.rr.com for sponsorship and advertising package information.

The much needed repairs will make the remainder of the 2012 season much more enjoyable for race fans and the drivers alike.  We sincerely regret this unfortunate delay and wish we could have started sooner.  We appreciate your patience as we aspire to make your Putnam County Speedway the most enjoyable track in the South East.
Sincerely,

Brian A. Richards

Acting General Manager
Putnam County Speedway

WHAT A DUMB ASS, KEVIN WILLIAMS SHOT HIMSELF IN THE FOOT A THE RACE TRACK TONITE, HE WAS HAULED OUT BY THE AMBULANCE, IS HE A CHICKEN, GOT TO CARRY A GUN AROUND WITH YOU? THE FLORIDA LAW CLEARLY STATES EVEN WITH A GUN PERMIT YOU CANNOT HAVE A GUN AT A PUBLIC SPORTING EVENT, AND TO TOP IT OFF HE CHARGES A ENTRY FEE TO THE TRUCK AND SPORTSMAN RACERS AND HAS HIS RODIE GREG TELL THE DRIVERS IN THE DRIVERS MEETING THEY WILL GET IT BACK PLUS THE WINNINGS FROM THE RACE, THAT WAS A LIE, TRUCK RACE PAID 500 TO WIN WITH A 50 DOLLAR ENTRY FEE AND THE DRIVER PAID THE 50 DOLLARS AND STILL ONLY WON 450, THIS IS A GOOD WAY TO GET CARS TO THE TRACK, MAYBE THEY NEED THE MONEY TO PAY KEVENS HOSPITAL BILL FOR A DUMB MOVE LIKE SHOOTING HIS SELF, THIS IS A GOOD COMBO AT A RACETRACK, A DRUNK OWNER WITH A LOADED GUN, WAIT TILL THE AIRPORT AUTHORITIY HERES ABOUT THIS, YOUR ISLAND IS GETTING SMALLER KEVIN WILLIAMS AND DANNY YATES, AND THEY ARE THE OWNERS, DONT LET KEVIN LIE TO YOU, DANNY IS A SILENT PARTNER!!!

Now this is just too damn funny. He shot himself in the foot? Somebody take that gun away from this drunk before he kills somebody. I believe it is legal in florida for a business owner to carry a weapon in his place of business even if it's a sporting venue. But this guy should not have a gun period. We raced down there a few weeks ago and our purse was cut. They do this all the time. Paying an entry fee on top of a $30 pit pass for each crew member is downright robbery. Since they only charge $10 for the front gate they are trying to make all their money off of the drivers at the pit gate. We'll never race there again. The most expensive track to race at in the state.

Re :   New Smyrna Speedway

Speed51.com

Change is a good thing. The staff at New Smyrna Speedway knew after 46 years that the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing needed a change. The format of nine nights of racing in sprint-race feature formats is a thing of yesteryear. Today very few tracks run weekly in the divisions that make up the card at World Series each February.

The plan for 2013 will see some changes to the schedule that will give fans an opportunity to see extra distance races on Sunday and Monday and then Wednesday through the final Saturday. The addition of 100 lap races for Pros and Supers will be added during the week in addition to extra laps for the Modifieds.

"Track Owner Robert (Hart) and I have talked about how the World Series needed some changes because the program was getting stale," said track General Manager Terry Roberts. "We knew we had to do something and when Daytona made their announcement (of the UNOH Battle at the Beach in 2013) it basically gave us the opportunity to put our plan into action."

Daytona International Speedway  will hold special events for Late Models, K&N Pro Series cars, and NASCAR Modifieds on the Monday and Tuesday after the Bud Shootout on the big track as a park of their Battle at the Beach. Many thought this would be a big take-away from New Smyrna, but Roberts looks to benefit from NASCAR's plan.

"We will come in on Friday and Saturday night and run our Super Late Models, Pro Late Models, Tour Type Modifieds, and Florida Modifieds. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday will be off days for the Tour-Type Modifieds."

This first step will allow for teams to run both Daytona and New Smyrna, perhaps with the same car.

"On Sunday night we will have a 100-lap Late Model race. On Monday we will have another 100-lap Late Model race," added Roberts. “We are not sure which will be the Pro Late Model race and which will be the Super Late Model race."

From here on out the schedule turns into a short tracker’s dream with big races every night leading up to the final night.

"Wednesday we will have a 76-lap NASCAR Tour-Type Modified race," in honor of John Blewett III explained Roberts. "On Thursday we will have a 100 lap Pro Late Model race and a 50-lap Tour-Type Modified event. Friday, of course, will be the Richie Evans Memorial 100. Saturday will be the Bright House Challenge 100 and 50 laps for the Pro Late Models."

The New Smyrna Speedway front office is also working on purse increases in addition to the schedule changes.

"The racers that are pulling down here want to race. I think the races needed to be extended to 50 or 100 laps. I think the Modified guys who are coming to Daytona will see these extended lap races and want to keep on racing that week. I think we will be able to keep a number of those people down here."

There will be some other changes with the Modifieds as well. The engine packages will be NASCAR Tour-legal only and the SK Modifieds will be dropped unless considerable interest can be acquired. Ricky Brooks will also take over the Modified tech portion and his staff will expand to keep things running smoothly.

There are also some plans to work with area hotels to help set up affordable accommodations for teams, fans and families.

Roberts has said his door is open and he wants feedback about the changes or other areas that can be improved. The World Series just came off a very successful year and it can have an even bigger year with promotion beginning with this announcement.

"We love to talk with people," said Roberts. "Good bad or indifferent. We need to know."

Hey Rhonda........is that your real picture...........hmmm.   Glad the tuna guy is gone...he was becoming a real pest.  How do you all feel about sunshine speedway reopening...........They are going to call it Showtime speedway....I personally think they could have came up with a better name

Show me your picture and I'll tell you if mine is real or not honey.  Yes Tuna is gone but if you notice the board is pretty well dead since he left.  Do you think we should ask him back so yall can fuck with him some more.  It was entertaining.  He thinks we're all Denise.  Too funny.  I think everyone but competing tracks are glad to see sunshine start up again.  I like the name showtime speedway.  It's great for promotion and if nobody had a problem with that scum bubba naming a track after himself why would anyone have a problem with showtime speedway.  He didn't name it yoho speedway. There's only a couple that don't like the name.  One is this jim mckinley.  What an ass this guy is.  He gives them crap on their facebook about the name. Then he gives them shit about their website and it's still under construction.  Hasn't even been opened yet and the turd is bitching.  To top it off this peanut brain doesn't even live in florida he lives in ohio.  He's another karcrap know it all just like andre who doesn't even live in the united states. he's lives in canada.  And benny the mule doesn't live in florida. He lives in north carolina.  All these people who don't even live in our state bitch about our racing and have all the answers on how to fix it.  Bunch of losers if you ask me.
