corregated floor section?
Does anyone know of anyone who sells sheets of steel pressed into roughly the shape of that used in the load area of the vans? I need some to repair the floor in a SWB i'm working on ... the crossmembers either side of the rear wheel arches were rotten to the extent that I decided it was going to be easier and more effective to remove them (along with what was left of the inner arches and raggedy old floor) and replace with new steel box section, than try and bodge it to get it thru it's test only to have the same problem a year later. I tried to find some 'castleated' steel sheet when I was repairing my LWB last year without success and ended up salvaging a section from another Dodge that was being scrapped ... not ideal as it's very time consuming to remove and clean up and only about 1.5mm thick to start with which doesn't make seem welding the joins easy after a few years/layers of rust have taken their toll on it ... going to use 12mm ply to line the van when completed but would still rather have some new corregated steel under it for strength. Was considering replacing the floor with 6mm ali chequer plate as when I priced up 3mm steel chequer plate (as a readily available alternative to the original floor) it was coming out at around £105/sheet and I was quoted about £120/sheet for 6mm ali durbar a couple of months ago ... has anyone done this to the satisfaction of MOT/plating inspectors? i.e. would bolting the ali chequer plate to the cross bearers be considered strong enuf in place of a fully welded steel floor? (I doubt it somehow,as nice as it would be to have a floor and inner arches that can't rust) I've done the obligatory ring-a-round and turned up nothing in steel, only managed to find a company who supply corregated floor sections in aluminium so far (which will be expensive and no stronger or easier to fit than 6mm sheet). I've hopefully got a catalogue coming from a company called Blagg & Johnson who I found listed in a commecial vehicle directory online but no idea if they will have what i'm looking for so thought i'd ask you lot now, rather than wait and be dissapointed when and if the catalogue arrives ... I thought this stuff would have uses other than flooring vans and be readily available but so far it seems it's only used by the manufacturers when the bodyshells are constructed ... any info much appreciated ... |
