$%*'`[NO TO TESCO]%*'`@Does Clapham High Street need yet another supermarket or a licensed premises? Dont we have enough?I live on Aristotle Road and I am sick of dodging cans bottles, drunks and vomit on a weekend and sometimes a weekday. Noise has become more of a problem over the past few months, especially since they opened the small sainsburys, even if it is lovely for us all to by fresh brioche on a sunday morning. There is no need for more places selling alcohol!Contact Lambeth and object.http://www.lambeth.gov.uk/Services/Business/LicencesStreetTrading/PendingApplications.htm

From the postcode, it looks like this is planned for the old Money Hicks building, does anyone know? But I agree wholeheartedly - Tesco already have a huge f*ck off store at Clapham South, what possible justification could they have for building another one less than a mile away? Even if it's a Tesco Metro... I just find all Tesco stores a bit scuzzy.

Mind you, if Waitrose wanted to set up on the High Street, I would be in the street with placards supporting it, so maybe I'm just being a hypocritical snob.

Well it's gonna happen!  Opens in June.

Not sure why we need a Sainsbury Superstore, a Sainbury Local AND a Tesco Direct all within 200m of each other...

You have got to be joking - the Ipsus development looks atrocious, more like something from Soviet Russia!

Yes, I walk past the Ipsus site on my way to the High Street or tube, and I think the plans for the building look very aggressive - a massive brick structure right at pavement level. It will be interesting to see what shops come (and I am pleased to see New World Wines opened now opposite), but I don't think the new building will do  anything for the look of the area.

Doesn't look too bad - I think will be quite nice when finished depending on what the shops/bars/restaurants are at ground level.  Certainly better than the eyesore it's been for 10 years+

No it is not the Money Hicks building, it is the old garage site next door, which was then empty for a long time and had weekend flea markets, Christmas tree markets, etc.

Ah well yet more insensitivity from the planners. I absolutely gutted that ALL new developments come right up to the pavement line. This produces horrible closed in canyons. If they could just leave us with a little bit of extra sky. Ah well it looks like I am leaving Clapham anyway so not my problem.
