When walking through Old Town today I noticed that the Fantasia Cafe (aka Old Town Cafe) was closed up. There are posters stuck in the window saying "Forfeiture of Lease" ... and saying that the lease has been seized by the landlord due to non payment of rent.

What a shame! This was my "local" and a great little place ... always busy, good food and service, great breakfasts.

I hope they may be able to sort things out and get back into business ... anyone know any more about this?

Well the place was open again and serving customers when I went past today. I have not been in yet, so don't know if it is under new management or what happened to the old. But the "Notice of Forfeiture" is still displayed on the door, and there appeared to be a new style menu displayed outside, so I would guess that the Landlord has brought in new management.

The plot thickens. The old cafe has reopened, but with a new manager and staff put in by the landlord. The  original manager and staff have now re-opened in the restaurant next door (which I think they also owned?),  Mooli. So this is now displaying a blackboard saying "Fantasia at Mooli - The Real Thing!", with the original menu. So this is where I went this morning - and can report that the breakfasts are as good as ever.

The landlord (the tenants uncle) decided to double the rent, based on his jeolousy of how well his nephew was doing. The issue went to court, and although they went to arbitration the issue was not resolved. As a result the uncle has reopened Fantasia, and the nephew is working out of the next door restuarnt "Mooli" doing the old fantasia food. The quality of food served by the uncle is very poor, he has also assalted a number of people in the old town, has been seen stealing produce from his nephew (and caught on CCTV), and has been arrested twice in the last 48 hours, once for threatening to kill someone (in front of the police) and the other for physical assalt. I would highly recommend that everyone avoid the "old fantasia" and eat next door, where the quality and customer service remain.

Had breakfast at Fantasia 2......disgusting. Everything was dry and bland. Don't even bother going there. Will try the Perfect Blend next but as it stands, the pavement cafe is the best even though the food is not presented nicely on a plate - the plates that they use to serve up the breakfast are just too small and everything is squished up on the plate.

Tried Perfect Blend for breakfast on Saturday, and this was good - good food and service, and a nice atmosphere in there even on a rainy Saturday morning. Will be returning.

Agree The Pavement is another good choice if you don't mind the rather cramped tables.
