hi all visit http://lovebattersea.googlepages.com/  and www.mywandsworth.co.uk/wandsworth/fe-community_sw11tch-back-to-battersea.htm to avail yourselves of the latest round in Clapham bashing and Clapham hating. Its run by Wandsworth Council and by the MP for Battersea. I think secretly they would have loved for the whole of SW4 to be in Wandsworth (i.e. less the council estates) as that would solve their mini crisis of confidence. I can understand and even sympathise with the ineptness of Lambeth Council but what i don't understand is why Wandsworth with all its vaunted superiority and contrived separateness from the rest of London continues to have a bee in its bonnet about Clapham and  Wandsworth  Citizen's who happily choose to  believe they live in Clapham or Clapham Junction. Or perhaps it is  the fact that all the whitewashing and trendiness in this world can't wash the batter out of Battersea  or change its history. i think  wandsworth council should stop trying too hard to trendify and  Chelsify  the area and instead think of  battersea natives who are slowly being edged out of their  homes and shops and being replaced with transient trendy types and bland immitations of Upper Street shops  with little or no allegiance to the area.

Have visited their website and yes they do have a bee in their bonnet and have not spared their vitriol for clapham and Lambeth. I'm rather suprised at the amount of heavy handedness and tone of dislike for Clapham on the lovebattersea website. Does any one know why? is there a history behind  all of this?   Peter

Change the name of the station to Battersea Junction that should sort all the confusion!

The campaign has nothing whatever to do with bashing or hating Clapham.
It is about preventing confusion between Clapham and Clapham Junction, two places in two different London Boroughs. Imagine if people in Clapham Old Town and businesses there began to refer to it as Battersea Old Town.....one would be likely to find local people who love Clapham rising up in arms to protect Clapham's very fine and proud identity.
Loving Battersea is not hating Clapham. One can love both at the same time, but wish to help people know which is which - and 'down the Junction' as they say in Battersea, there is a lot of confusion over identity with businesses and residents not knowing where they are.
Changing the name of the station would certainly help stop the confusion but just as many people who would like that to occur also love Clapham Junction's identity and would be sorry to see that name go!!
....and Network Rail would not countenance such a change, so they say.
So, as Valentine's Day approaches, let Battersea and Clapham join together for a big love-in on Clapham Common..... or should that be Clapham Common and Battersea East Heath!!!!!

Just because Clapham Common cuts across Wandsworth and Lambeth does not give rise to wanting  to rename it Battersea East Heath and it does not take anything away from Battersea or Wandsworth Borough either. Thats taking it too far. I think all of that stuff by the Council and love battersea  is ridiculous as people on both sides of the common are happy to live on \Clapham Common, no one in the area has complained, many of us chose to live around the Common because it is Clapham Common. I don't mind saying i live in Battersea  and i love Battersea even though I live off the common in SW11 and would rather prefer to say i live in Clapham, Wandsworth  because that makes things easier. Please leave our Common alone.  The Council is not  making    a fuss about people in parts of SW12 or SW11 bordering on Wandsworth common  refering to their area  Wandsworth instead of Balham or Battersea, so why Clapham?  Al, Concerned SW11 resident

Lambeth has just received a 3 star rating from the Audit Commission. this makes it the most improved borough in London.

It was Humour..... the mention of Battersea East Heath was casting back in history, there is no one trying to rename that part of the Common as such.

The history of Battersea and Clapham has been entwined for centuries. People of both places are rightly (or at least hopefully) proud of where they live.

Of course, for those who do not care where they live and couldn't give a monkeys about thinking of any sense of pride for their area ahead of any other part of London, the SW11tch campaign is of no interest whatsoever.

Those people can just switch over to another webpage and relax, leaving those who care differently to love Battersea.... or (and at the same time even) Clapham.

So, can we let the sun brighten up this chat and help us all lighthen up and get on as neighbours who share and hopefully love Clapham Common.
