RE:Verso --> Perfect Blend
(Date Posted:27/06/2008 04:27:52)
Why the 'allegedly in Streatham' bit. Sounds like noses being turned up at the mention of the 'S' word. Streatham is a nice up and coming part of Lambeth and we should welcome this sort of within-the-borough thing. It also adds to Streatham's cred that there's a branch opening in Clapham! I'm sure it will be a nice Cafe, though i think businesses in the mid section of Clapham Park road will do better if they market themselves more intensively to people in the Abbeville-Northborne-Park Hill triangle. This coffee shop could save people going all the way to the High Street and its quiet location is most likely a plus for families and people wanting to avoid the high street's hustle and bustle or trekking all the way down Abbeville Road.

Totally agreed - inappropriate use of "allegedly". I was, badly, making the point that it's not just a coffee shop but a fully functioning bar / restuarant, too - like the one in Streatham. Nothing against Streatham - I've never been to be honest.
Yes, the catchment area for Clapham Park Road is quite large. They are many apartment blocks on the bottom stretch of the road now, with one new one just completed and two more in development and that along with Abbeville "village" *should* mean they get plenty of custom.
However, Verso was never that busy even though their pizzas/pasta were some of the best in Clapham.

Yes Perfect Blend is rated as the classiest cafe/dining offering in Streatham by Time Out, so maybe it is something to watch out for. Given that Time Out's covering of Streatham was generally rather grim i guess its wait and see.

Perfect Blend has had good and occasionally rave reviews across the board and is seen as the 'saving grace' of Streatham (strange), their service is however slow. Their all round cafe and restaurant menu is said to be excellent, so worth a try when the Clapham branch opens!

The Perect Blend is Streatham, or St Reatham for you idiots, is fantastic, whether it be for lunch in the day or dinner and few beers in the evening. The new bar is reckoned to be better still by the gay owner Bradley Ridge. Cant wait.

It's looking very swish! They have a lot of the fixtures and fittings in now - looks like it's going to be *quite* nice. Can't wait to see Bradley Ridge's big opening. Ooooooh missus, etc, etc.

Looks really good! Lets hope they can market it right, given that that portion of Clapham Park Road has never really fulfilled its potential. suprisingly though the tail end of the road, once a no-go area appears to be getting all the buzz for the right reasons with new housing, retail and office developments nearing completion, pubs and the reopening of Fantasia Cafe means folk in the area need not trudge all the way to the high street or down to abbeville road for a cup of latte, a beer or a fry up. Perfect Blend should focus its marketing on its immediate neighbourhood first and foremost

OK, well let's give them a chance!
It opened last night. Haven't been yet- might go tonight. Looks very nice inside and there were a few people having drinks. AND it was open this morning, passed it on my way to the office.
I can imagine it being mobbed Sunday mornings for a fry-up-read-thepapers morning.

Went last night and it was excellent! Really like what they have done with the place.
Good choice of food at very reasonably prices and the quality was excellent. A good selection of wines, with the house white starting at 10quid(!) a bottle, maxing out at 20quid for a decent Chablis.
Will be interesting to see what happens Friday and Saturday nights to see if it becomes more bar than restaurant - as they have not designated tables to be obviously bar or restaurant. I don't want this to turn into Sand bar!
Servce was friendly and a small problem was dealt with quickly and efficently.
Overall a great place to have on your doorstep.
I think this is going to be very popular, indeed and deservedly so.

RE:Verso --> Perfect Blend is Excellent!!!

Yes I went there last night with a friend and it was great. The food was excellent (slow cooked pork in massala sauce and concannon and burger and fries) and very reasonably priced. They have separate and varied breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and an excellent bar and cafe. Perfect Blend is bound to prove very popular with Clapham folk. Yes the Clapham crowd are different from the Streatham one and i think Perfect Blend has raised its game higher here! Lets hope its not hijacked by the twenty-something trendy set and that everyone can have a go.

I live in Streatham (Hill) and PB has provided some of the best service and atmosphere that I have found in the whole of London....This whole "Perfect Blend has raised its game higher here" kind of attitude is hilarious as you obviously have no fcuking idea about the area that the original PB is located in.....and obviously have your eyes shut when walking around Clapham!!
I personally would rather live where I am than surrounded by the Clapham clones, although quite a few have drifted into the Streatham PB over the past few months..!!!! Good luck and look after your new bar, it will look after you!

Clapham is a very mixed area, so not sure what the last writer meant about Clapham clones. There might be a large contingent of students and graduates here for obvious reasons but a good majority of your so called 'Clapham clones' live in places like Streatham or come from other parts of Lambeth and London to enjoy themselves in Clapham. There are many good bars and restaurants in Clapham and some bad ones too, like every other area. It is understandable that Streatham has had some very bad press and its image in the eyes of most 'Londoners' may not necessarily reflect the reality of people who live there and love the area. Comments in Time Out and other media reviews about Streatham has not helped that area! Read 'London for Londoners'.

Nice bar! but I can understand why PB needs to raise its game in Clapham as there are loads of competiton from the High street, Old Town, Clapham North and South, Lavender Hill and Abbeville and its location down Clapham Park road means their service has to be extra special to attract punters to stop by. It needs to market itself to the locals more. The food and atmosphere in PB is great but the service can be very slow and confirms what most reviewers of its streatham branch have said - great food but the service sucks!

"Clapham is a very mixed area, "
So is Streatham - and a big area at that.... Streatham Hill as a district is completely different to other parts of Streatham. thats my point and is relevant to the placement of PB.
"not sure what the last writer meant about Clapham clones"
Its a pretty common term used around London, the reputation goes before them...especially now the Winter is coming in - Ugg boots with velour tracksuit, pashmina and CRAZEEE beanie hat......Flip flops with surf shorts for the lads - topped off with thick scarf, T-shirt and beanie - or add jeans instead of shorts if it's really cold - keep the flip flops and the buck-teeth though! Quite easy to spot this lot!
Cheers for the tip on the book but I base my opinions on what I see before me and knowing both areas well having lived in both areas - that will do.
Don't take it personally though - Londons a big place and everywhere is different but you only really know the place you actually live!! Have fun!

Yes Clapham is a very mixed area in the sense that not everyone in clapham adheres to the stereotype you've painted there are many other people with individual tastes different from what you've described. Same people you described can be found all over London. Well you obviously have something against Clapham or its so called clones, not sure what you're doing on here. I'm sure there's a site for streatham folk to play out their angst.
