I can't help noticing that as soon as this new administration took
power, we had a cut in the funding for stock in libraries - down from
?00000 last year (which was to be maintained "for the forseeable
future") to ?60000. There is a moratorium on buying stock until
crisis budgeting has taken place. We may have refurbished premises if
any part of Revitalise goes ahead (in years to come) but what is the
use if there is nothing on the shelves and no money for the excellent
events which have taken place in recent years? Will we see the closure
of more libraries, as happened under the last Labour administration
(Clapham Park and Streatham Vale)? An unacceptable excuse would be the
"inherited financial situation" ruse. All new administrations say that. Why are libraries the scapegoat again? This from a party whose priorities are inclusion, equality and diversity - tell that to the people who can't afford books, films, music and computers. Use instead the ?00000 allocated for spin doctors (cf South London Press) for the people of Lambeth, not the politicians.

SURELY LIBRRARIES COULD SAVE MONEY BY NOT HOLDING WINE AND NIBBLES EVENINGS AND TO BE USED AS A LIBRARY SHOULD BE.  PREHAPS THE CUT BACK SHOULD COME FROM COUNCILS WHERE THERE IS A POOR TURNOUT.

That is part of the function of a 21st century library. It is not just about books, but community involvement.

I WOULD NOT SAY THAT LIBARIES ARE SCAPEGOATS BUT IN SCOTLAND WE RUN OUR LIBARIES MORE EFFICENT THEN YOU DO IN ENGLAND

Because health is funded centrally, not by local government. Duh.
