Topic :   Betting Shops in Clapham

Hi there. I'm doing a study on betting shops in London and would like to get local's perceptions of them in Clapham

It's quite a big issue at the moment, with a lot of people saying there's too many betting shops on their high-streets. Would really appreciate your input. You can also state what kind of outlets you'd like to see in your locality (or if you love your high-street, what kind of outlets do you think are great).

The questionnaire only takes 2-3 minutes to do. All anonymous of course! Thanks!

A day of yoga with Bill Wood
feeling more, holding less

A workshop for teachers, trainee-teachers and serious students.

Sunday 15 July 2012, 10am - 4.30pm
at f h space, 9 Havelock Walk, Forest Hill, London SE23 3HG
£45 - all profits go to the
Hackney Yoga Project

Places are very limited. To book now or for more information, please contact Katrin on kat@yoga-gestalten.co.uk / 07977 968 887 or Michele on mjmpr1@gmail.com / 07796 967 422

Experience one of the most inspiring Scaravelli-influenced yoga instructors during this rare London visit. Bill will explore how 'asanas' can be felt more as places of balance within us, rather than as specific physical shapes. Places we can access via feeling rather than mind, as our practice becomes as much a form of mindfulness as it is a bodywork. The 'asanas' can then just be outward expressions of this growing awareness as the body becomes stronger, more released, and more at ease.

The selection of practices during the day will reflect the needs and abilities of the group, while also offering people a safe place to challenge themselves. Each session will end with a period of quiet relaxation and meditation.

About Bill Wood...Bill has been teaching yoga for 18 years, first qualifying as a Sivananda teacher and as a Yoga Therapist with the Yoga Biomedical Trust. He is most inspired by Diane Long, a longtime student of Vanda Scaravelli who he has studied with since 1996. He has also trained with John Stirk and Sophy Hoare. Based is South Devon, Bill teaches groups and private classes, workshops throughout the UK and has run teacher training courses.  He also has a psychotherapy practice, working from his home near Totnes. His long history of involvement in meditation and psychotherapy continually informs and inspires his approach to yoga in its broader sense. (http://www.billwoodyoga.co.uk/)

Mats can be provided (on request). Hot drinks will be available. Please bring a packed lunch, or you can go to one of the local cafes.

We look forward to welcoming you.

Re :   Rectory Gardens

There was me, and Terry Collins who went for a bike ride back in 1975 looking for somewhere else to be. We had just spent the previous three years squatting in Charrington Street and finally got one of Ken Livingston's minions to agree that squatting Rectory Gardens was a solution to their problem.
It did take a phone call or two, to a secret phone number, to agree that this was a solution. But we never told anyone else, did we Tel?
Here we are forty years later not owning up to our deceptions!
Now I find myself in the company of those who actually lived there, those who remember what we did, and they are here, now, not in some far off place remembering.
I still squat. I still live in a land that is mine. I still choose to be a digger.

HiI belong to a badminton club that plays every Sunday 12:30 to 15:30 at Latchmere Leisure Centre. We are next playing on Sunday 4th March.http://www.dcleisurecentres.co.uk/Centres/Greater+London/Latchmere+Leisure+Centre/Latchmere+Leisure+CentreAddress is Burns Road London SW11 5AD. It's just off Lavender Hill and near Clapham JunctionIt's a fun club, and most of our players are at intermediate level. We also have some advanced players and a few beginners, but what we really need are some more intermediate/advanced ladies. If you are interested, please come along. It's £8 for the three hours, and we play on four courts with decent feathers, which are supplied by our club leader Judith. We play some singles and some doubles. When you arrive, just say to reception that you are here for the badminton and then go to the sports hall, where Jude or myself (Kevin) will meet you. Hope this is of interest.Kevin

Hahahaha........a haven of normality in a world gone mad.......long may it last........and may it always remain a mystery.

I totally agree! I used to squat in one of them in 1980 and am really surprised they haven't changed a bit - expected it to be gentrified by now (i.e. have all the character removed) - but SOOO glad it hasn't been. Must pay a return visit soon and relive some crazy memories...

Re :   I'm moving to SW4 what are best parts?

What about the area around Wandsworth Road?
Any info from the locals?

I've seen a few nice properties in Brayburne Avenue, but those two huge twin towers across the road look quite menacing.
