Revolution is probably the only venue that's got proper air-conditioning system on the high street. It's never too hot, too cold or too smoky.

My own view is that when it's like this, the best thing to do is find a place where you can sit outside.  Lots of places on the High Street have a few pavement tables, the Frog & Forget-me-not has a roof terrace, and then there's the Windmill and Firefly a bit further down.  The Duke of Edinburgh on Ferndale Rd has a superb beer garden, though that's more Brixton way.  The Manor Arms has a decent beer garden / patio at the front.

Royal Oak and Arch 635 both cool - 635 literally in this heat.  Royal Oak just rethought its menu and does GBK standard burgers...
