I first visited this gem about two years ago, and can no longer bother with any other curry restaurants in the area. I'm told that one significant difference between Pakistani cooking (a la Tabaq) and Indian cooking is that Indians use ghee (resulting in thick gloopy sauces, and galumphing and unsubtle dishes) and Pakistanis use oil - and the cooking at Tabaq is exquisite.

If you like curries, then you owe it to yourself at least to try it - they are on Balham Hill, just south of Clapham South tube, a bit before the Shell garage on your left. The only complaints I have heard is to do with the service - probably not unfair if you expect the usual fawning service you get in restaurants, so notch your expectations down a little and concentrate on the quality of the food.

Recommendations are Murgh Palak (spinach and chicken, but a zillion times better than your bog standard Saag Chicken, try it with garlic naan instead of rice), Kucko Paka (chicken with coconut cream and chillies, very unusual) and Gheenga Masala (king prawn curry.

Funnily enough, I think that's where I'm going for lunch... if anyone goes, please let me know what you think!
