The Council is holding a very important meeting on the future of Clapham tonight. There will be all sorts of planning bods and councillors there. If you are concerned about the development of Clapham - the market in the garage (which apparently will be back), the sal;e of the big tower block next to it, etc - come along and have your say...... Are you concerned about how your area is developed? About how the area’s attractive buildings and open spaces are preserved? We are keen to hear your views on changes being proposed to the Unitary Development Plan. This Plan (the UDP) is a used by Town Planners, architects, builders, surveyors and consultants to plan and encourage conservation, economic growth and sustainability in towns and cities up and down the country. Lambeth is currently reviewing its plan starting with the publication and consultation of the 'Key Issues Paper' in 2001 and the 'Deposit Draft UDP 2002 - 2017' (published and consulted on in 2002). The Council has now considered the 3000 representations made in response to this.As you may be aware, consideration of the objections coincided with a change in the Council’s political administration because of the local elections in May 2002 and the Council has been reviewing its position in relation to a number of key planning-related issues. It is now anticipated that the Revised Deposit UDP will be published at the end of 2003.The Council wants to ensure that local people have the opportunity to learn about and discuss the proposed changes as soon as possible and have organised a number of meetings to provide an opportunity to discuss area-based policies and proposals. It is important to note that this is not a forum for introducing new issues and further objections cannot be made. The results of these informal meetings will be considered and reported back to the UDP Working Group in October 2003.The policy team looks forward to hearing your views. For Clapham and StockwellTown Centre AreaThursday 25th September 2003at 7:00pmClapham Methodist Church HallClapham High StreetThe Entrance to the venue is in Nelson’s Row/Clapham High Street. Oh didn't they just.....

The market looks like it will NOT be getting planning permission so is a dead duck, not sure what is happening with the tower block.

There was some useful stuff going on but an awful lot of wibble.

I am trying to get local councillors to put their noses in here so we can have a bit more direct communication which I think could be very useful for that thing called "local democracy". More later.

Steve
