After seeing the brilliant Frost/Nixon at Clapham Picture House we sauntered down to Four O Nine at the Clapham North end of Clapham High Street and what a fantastic Sunday lunch we had.
Four choices at each course for £22 for two courses or £25 for for three represents fantastic value for money - especially given the quality. To start the fois gras and chicken liver parfait was wonderful - a creamy smooth pate on crisp warm toast was a wonderful start on a cold Sunday afternoon. The beef to follow was outstanding - two huge thick pieces of sirloin properly pink in the middle accompanied by fondant potatoes and green beans and a rich jus - we even enjoyed the roast carrot. Plus a great horseradish cream.
In for a penny in for a pound - we had one warm chocolate walnut pudding and a cheese and what a great choice of quality cheese.
A good choice of wines and this is the only negative I can think of and that is they are very steeply raked in price and none below 20quid that I could find.
For Sunday lunch this represents serious competition to Trinity - I'd be hard pushed to choose between the two but thankfully I don't have to - each being an equal walk from home.
Definitely worth checking out - can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon - before or after the cinema.
