Jett Beres, bassist of Sister Hazel, will release a children’s book entitled “Starfish, A Lullaby” on September 23, 2008. The book is based on the lyrics to the song “Starfish,” which is featured on the band’s platinum-selling album “Somewhere More Familiar." TITLE: Starfish AUTHOR: Jett Beres RELEASE DATE: 9/23/08
http://www.starfishlullaby.com/NOTEWORTHY: Packaged with each book is a CD which boasts the “Lullaby Suite,” a three-song “Starfish” sampler. Included are a lullaby version of the song performed by Beres and Sister Hazel bandmate Ryan Newell, a symphonic arrangement of the song, and a classical guitar take on the tune. The CD clocks in at eighteen minutes, which Beres says is the perfect amount of time for his kids to fall asleep. A percentage of proceeds from the book sales will go to benefit Lyrics for Life (www.lyricsforlife.org), a charity founded by Sister Hazel vocalist, Ken Block. FROM THE AUTHOR: In 1995, I “found myself” touring around the country in the back of an old Chevy conversion van, with a two-year sabbatical and the hopes for my band to “catch a rising star.” The van was named Clevon, and the band was named Sister Hazel. Traveling down a long stretch of highway, I came up with the idea for a very simple song about missing my home, feeling alone, and finding my place in the world. This quirky little song about a starfish has been connecting with our audiences in a strange and endearing way ever since then. It wasn’t until I had two children of my own that I realized the story of the Starfish had a new way to be told, and a new audience to tell it to. I hope that you find this little story as fun to read to your children at bedtime as I have. “…There we were, one more star tonight…” - Jett Beres
