I've recently taken custody of an 82 250xlr. The owner, a long-time good friend, had a stroke recently (only 59, vegetarian, perfect health, go figure) and I've agreed to do a little fixing up and either sell it for him or buy it myself. He'd recently gotten it running, inspired in part by recent resurrection of my '62 cb77, so we know it'll go, but it has some cosmetic problems: broken plastic headlight bucket and case for indicator lights, plus broken speedometer face and cracked clear speedo cover. He musta hit something!
I've got the shop manual and owners manual, but a parts manual showing parts numbers would be real handy...I found a free pdf version for my cb77 online, that would be ideal, but can't find one for the 250xlr.
Western Hills Honda may have parts I need, but it's hard to know without part numbers...and i'd rather get used stuff if possible...ebay suprisingly has way more parts for the cb77s than for the cl250s...seems like there's usually at least one being parted out there, plus plenty of used, aftermarket and nos parts...
So, any suggestions as to getting used body parts or parts manual?
One other question: battery seems to have at least one dry cell. Is there a serious consequence from running bike with dead battery, or will lights just not work? (I understand that running my Super Hawk with dead battery may fry the rectifier, among other problems.)
I'd really appreciate any guidance. Thanks in advance, Lee Webb
