Hello Gents,
Im new to the forum. I have a 1983 xlx 250 which when I was younger did a cam chain and bent the exhaust valves. I really liked the  bike but never repaired it. 12 years on its still in my shed. I decided I get it going for nostalgia. But I can find very little on this bike. Not even sure which manual to get as the clymers etc dont mention the model.
Hoping someone can help. Regards Bryan

The Clymer manual  # m328-4 covers your bike in the supplement in the back.

I just did an '82 XL250R and I will say it is a bit tough to find parts for the '82-'83 models. That said, the top end from a '79 to '83 is the same, so you shouldn't have much of a problem finding stuff on ebay or here. If you need a crank though you will have to hunt, the only one that will fit is from an '82 or '83.
Here's mine. She's for sale......

Hello SailorDennis,
Nice bike looks almost like mine. Mine has the RFVC head and twin carbs and square head lights. From what I have heard the xlx 250 has the bottom end and cam chain set up of the XR 350 of the same year. But Im not sure.

combat, I don't think we got a 250 in the US for 83, only the 350 RFVC. Ours was the 78-82 XL-XR250s which is little brother to the XL-XR500. Dennis, Your motor is the 6speed model and has the counterbalancer gear driven in the front only. Several differences between those and the 5speed. Top case, balancer, cam chain tensioner, head and rockerbox bolt pattern, ignition etc.  Basic motor is the same. Pat Orman.

Sorry pat I dissagree I have one in my front yard its deffinatly an 83 xl250 not sure if it was origanlly sold here but I bought it from a farmer in eastern washington. He sold it to me as an 84 but it had a single carb and a tag that said 83. It has a 6 speed tranny thats going on my 78 xl250 as I hate the 5 speed.

I believe your absolutely correct woosh. 82-83 were the sixspeeds. Thought it was 81-82. I used to have CRS[can't remember sh!!]. Doc told me the other day I now have CRAFT. Noticed looking at the parts fische that the head and rocker box are the same[bolt pattern?]all the way through and the cam chain tensioner, also. Is that true or did they change them on the "black" motors like the 500s? I thought they changed them. Pat. almost forgot[can't remember a f!@!#!@ thing]- CRAFT

Hello Gents,
Im taking it that the US didnt get the XLX 250. It seems Honda was a little lost around this time and had a large parts bin perhaps? I seem to have problems finding online parts for the XLX. Though there is a guy on ebay selling a cam chain for $88 AU. Not bad I guess. I will ask on the quality. Dont want another chain to go wondering in the engine case. The next part is the adjuster. It does look like the XR 350's of the same era. I will have to check if that is the case.

Regards Combat

Well Patt I have a problem I buy stuff hopping it will work and really have no idea if it will so lets all hope its the same as I really want the six speed in my 78 I use it to pull me and my girl around thats almost 300 pounds so I would like the closer gearing. I had to put on xl500 rear shocks to make it hold the both of us up but after I did that it has never bottomed out even off road yes with both of us on it.
