This bike from what ive reead came jetted pretty lean from the factory and benefits from a slight rejetting.

Pat knows his stuff dont use a hammer its very easy to knock the crank out of true. Untrue cranks love to eat crank seals and cost about 100 bucks to true.

It should work without the battery unless someone has already butchered your wiring harness. It wont be as bright as with the battery but it should still light up, mine does.

Well Patt I have a problem I buy stuff hopping it will work and really have no idea if it will so lets all hope its the same as I really want the six speed in my 78 I use it to pull me and my girl around thats almost 300 pounds so I would like the closer gearing. I had to put on xl500 rear shocks to make it hold the both of us up but after I did that it has never bottomed out even off road yes with both of us on it.

Sorry pat I dissagree I have one in my front yard its deffinatly an 83 xl250 not sure if it was origanlly sold here but I bought it from a farmer in eastern washington. He sold it to me as an 84 but it had a single carb and a tag that said 83. It has a 6 speed tranny thats going on my 78 xl250 as I hate the 5 speed.

Ya reproduction decals used to have all the honda stuff but I heard honda put a stop to that as its copyrighted or somthing to that effect.

Ebay is a good source for used parts this site can also be helpful for used parts as well. A good place to get part number and also where I get mine is www.cmsnl.com I have also purchased from them but they can be very expensive. I probably have all the parts you need in my shed I was gonna rebuild an xl250 but it was so far gone I have never done it. Let me know what all you need and if your interested.

My xl500 made the squeally noise you refer to. Was it comming from the left side of your engine? On my 500 I had a bit of crud in the oil and had layed the bike on its side to do some clutch work didnt want to dump the oil. It worked its way into the fly wheel/stater area and got inbetween the where there isnt much clearnce and made the noise you describe I changed the oil and it never did it again may be whats wrong with yours.

Posted on 09/07/2009 07:47:34

Sorry mine got stuck in the off position not on so I guess its backwards of what yours is doing.

Posted on 09/07/2009 07:46:43

These floats are stupid mine did the same thing bike was a 350 but has the same carb setup. I ground a little bit away from the part the float tab was getting stuck on and it quit doing it. It sounds like its getting stuck on a different part in your carb as it wsa getting stuck on the part of the carb that the rod goes thru to hold the float in there on mine.

No its not the same size try the xl600

Posted on 08/28/2009 13:36:40

I have one I pulled off of my 84 xl350r it does have a small dent and is a little rusted but is solid and is from a 84 xl350r pm me if your interested I also have one from a xl250r not dented at all not sure if they were the same tho. I replaced mine with a suppertrapp and it worked great.

Posted on 08/18/2009 11:39:27

I have the same setup on my 74 mt250 green black and grey at the blinker relay. I used the grey and black and funny thing a 79 xl500 relay and it all works great not sure what the extra ground is for.

Lol I bought cmsnl.coms last one a year or so ago 80 plus dollars put it in the bike and it burned right out. They are gonna be very hard to find but an xl100s bulb is probably gonna work just fine not for sure tho.
