Poison ivy, poison oak and poison sumac all produce oil that is irritating to the skin of most people. Even though some people are more resistant than others are, these plants can make most people quite miserable. Once the oil gets onto the skin or clothing, touching it will spread it to other parts of the body. Even burning the plant can be dangerous. The natural oils can become airborne, and if breathed into the respiratory system, can cause serious problems.
