In my experience, a lot depends on the people involved in the seance. If everyone has a clear intention of what they are trying to accomplish, and that they have good intentions, then I don't see anything wrong with them.
It also helps to have someone 'lead' the seance who has had some experience in a spirit circle. Not necessarily a full fledged medium, just someone who has an idea of what to expect.
If you get a group together who's sole intention is to try and communicate with someone like John Wayne Gacy or Jack the Ripper and they are doing it because it sounds like a fun and scary thing to do, they will likely attract a very nasty person who may not be interested in leaving when the seance is over. However, if everyone in the circle is intending on communicating with spirit for the purposes of healing and compassionate communication, things tend to go much smoother.
Actually, same goes for any kind of spirit board or any other tools. Intention is everything! And don't forget to ask for (insert personal supreme beings name here) to protect you.
Wow, that turned out to be a much longer answer than I expected!

Yup, it is easier for spirit to manipulate an object with the energy of 'living' people. Similar to an electrical current being stronger when there is a complete circuit. In the right circumstances and with enough energy even if the circuit isn't complete the electricity can arc across. It is the same way with spirit energy. Unless they can build up enough energy to cause movement, it is easier to 'borrow' energy from the people physically touching the object. Even people in spirit follow the laws of physics.

Brenda, I am not 100% but I think the concept to them touching the glass is that the spirit may not have the ability to move objects on their own but they may be able to move it "thru" someone--Similar to the way a mediem is sometimes "used" to speak for the spirit.
Most Haunted cracks me up! The seriousness to their "uncontrolled" screaming makes me laugh--you know they are acting.

Hey, I was wondering, when watching Most Haunted last night (because nothing else was on) I was wondering why they have to hold on to the glass (other than easier to fake getting it to move) when talking. Is there a specific reason other than that for it. And there was an instance when they "caught" a dancing orb on camera but the way it was moving made me think it was a light reflecting off of something off camera. I moved like it was on a track, not very fluid. Seemed mechanical. And of course they had a plethora of screaming females. Irritates me seeing these women run screaming thru the halls. Though when the men run screaming it is kind of funny.

I still like Ghosthunters and have been watching it. I haven't even been on enough actual investigations myself to see how I would even set something up. It is tv, so the bottom line is still entertainment to a certain extent.

Yes I am sure you will be able to make a pretty good ghost film yourself and create some pretty cool "evidence" also. As we all know most ghost hunts are not as eventful as these shows make them out to be. We do an awful lot of sitting and hoping something shows up on film or EVP. Still waiting to see an aparition myself!!!!!!!!

Well....
I've become disenchanted with the "Ghost Hunters" team... I have heard way too many first hand accounts of things they are setting up for the show now. Just like all the rest of them. To make thrills for tv. They really sold out I guess. Oh, yeah... that footage of the guy getting smacked in the face with audio equipment at the military "haunt"... set up. That was my exciting "proof" that they provided me, and I totally got shot down. Just goes to show what Chris says is true... can't believe what's on tv. And now that I have witnessed the joy of editing film first hand... much can be done... we'll just say that. You would never know things were set up.
Ghost Hunters doesn't even entertain me anymore... I just find myself yelling at the tv.

I really do not know if we can believe that anything we see on TV is real. They have to make it interesting for the viewer. We know from our own hunts that sometimes NOTHING at all happens. Hard to believe they get things every time they go out...

Yep, that's Brian. Both Taps and Most Haunted have been accused of faking footage though. I watch both of them just for the drams now!
