Looking for any information on the environment, beach conditions and overall atmosphere at this beach, the southern three quarters of a mile of which is past what is the end of the access road, and the southern 1.5 miles of which is past all buildings.

I've frequented Delnor Wiggins State Park, south of the water Pass, in North Naples, but this has gotten way too crowded for my tastes.

Barefoot Beach seems like an ideal thonging/topless location for a half mile stretch at least.

Over the past two years my wife and I have been to Barefoot Beach as well as other beaches in the vacinity many times. Other than ourselves, we have never seen anyone in a thong or g-string. We have also never observed anyone topless.

However Barefoot Beach is clean, uncrowded and very nice to visit. I recommend going to the south end of the beach in the direction of Wiggins Pass. You can park in the last parking lot and walk out on the beach easily. This area has the fewest number of people and my wife and I have worn thongs/g-strings with no problem.

If you have a boat, there are many secluded beaches in the area (Keewayden and Little Hickory) where nude and thongs are very common. We prefer these beaches versus Barefoot.

Barefoot Update ... My wife and I visited Barefoot beach several times during the 08/09 holidays. We were pleased to see several other couples in thongs and g-strings on the southern section of the beach which is less populated. One day prior to Christmas one women was topless, which was the first time we have experienced this on this section of the beach.

We are glad to see that minimal swimwear is becoming more acceptable at Barefoot, since it is a beautiful and accessable beach.

We also spent time at Little Hickory and Keywayden where minimal swimwear and nude is the norm.

Cheers!

RJC,

I'm not entirely familiar with the area, and I'm wondering if one needs a boat to get to Little Hickory Beach.  It seems from google maps that it is directly accessable from Hickory Blvd.
Is it also known as Bonita Beach access #10?  I find an address for Little Hickory as 26082 Hickory Blvd, which is the same address for Bonita Beach access #10 on www.leeparks.org.   The area looks really nice and it's interesting to hear that thongs and nude are the norm.  I haven't heard about this before.

Any clarifications would be most welcome.  Once the weather warms up, I'd like to bring my wife down to experience the beach for ourselves.  I would of course like to be in the right place....

Nice to hear this that more people are going here to thong I've been here several time but the $8 is alittle steep  . but its a great spot to thong an even go nude sometime depending on how busy it is .But diffidently need to goto the southern end of barefoot.

and bruce42 i would not go nude at access #10 in Bonita or thong i don't think is a good idea I've never seen anyone thong at that access. but if u goto the next island north  from there  you would need a boat to get to it but there are people that go nude an thong there. I have gone to lovers key an thong before but its not legal there its a state park . i would say your best spot an place would be barefoot beach goto the 3 parking lot an walk south .

Funtom,
Thanks for the tips on locations.  I live north of Ft Myers and therefore I am not that familiar with the Bonita Beach area. It's not that far away and I've driven through the area for various reasons, but never really have gotten the chance to get familiar with the beaches.  Looking at the coastline and maps, it would seem that the area is good for thonging when the beaches aren't so busy.  How quiet is it once the snowbirds leave?   Up here is gets pretty deserted, which I find is among the best times to go to the beach with minimal swimwear.

I did not know it was "illegal" to thong at Lover's Key. Why do you think that? Is it posted? I have and have seen thongers there before.

I was told by the lovers key manager when he saw me he told me that its illegal to wear thongs and to cover my rear. But if you see a ranger on a atv  u just sit down an u shouldn't have a problem. yea i thong there too just have to do it in serent areas not where all the people are. i goto the northern most tip to thong here.

  bruce42
I would say more people hit the beach when its summer time down here at lovers key an at barefoot beach but i lik both of these beaches less atv traffic at barefoot I've even gone nude here a few times at the southern most end. who do you goto the beach with your wife ? If you get down this way i can show you a few areas to goto that you can wear thongs or even try nude.

Collier county does not publish rules prohibiting the wearing of thongs at the beaches or parks. The nearest Collier County ordinance I found prohibited: "Disturb the peace, use any profane, obscene or blasphemous language or do any indecent act" It's a stretch to consider thong wearing under this language.

Spent a great day at the Beach all day on Sunday at Barefoot Beach. The water was clear and calm - and very low with TONS of living starfish everywhere.

I went to the Southern end of the beach - 3rd parking lot (the dirt lot) and I had absolutely no problems wearing my Joe Snyder thong. I have been going here pretty often for years and I have never encountered any problems with any rangers etc. I think the important thing to remember here is that people are very conservative down here in this area. This is NOT South Beach - so don't try to push it here. Plan on being somewhat discreet about laying out here in your thong and not walk all over the place flaunting. That could get you in trouble as posted on here before. Get a sense of your surroundings and be respectful of others. Do not walk around in your thong - it's not a good idea. If you want to go in the water.... go - but go in... and then go back where you were laying out and mind your business and others won't bother you.

This area of the beach on the weekends is often visited by boats with families that anchor out a bit and then swim to shore and hang out for a while.

As for this Sunday, there was another young couple (late 30's/ 40s) not far from me that had no problem with me laying out in my thong. She had on a black minimal bikini suit and he wore a square cut type suit. Then there was also an older man in his 50's laying out in a thong as well.

Later another guy drove to shore with his Jetski with his wife (early 40s) and young daughter. After hanging out for a bit there, he took his Surfer shorts off and wore just a speedo type suit. Wife wore a nice looking suit as well not a thong, but was in nice shape and they  just enjoyed some time relaxing on the beach.

The best place to lay out here in my opinion is up toward the tree line area and there is a mix of some Sea Grass that is "not preseverved", but instead growing wild towards the beach. Hang out in these areas and this will make your thonging experience a lot easier and not possibly distract others who chose to walk the legnth of the beach.

Enjoy the beach.

Perfect weather - Perfect Beach day at Barefoot beach today.

Great day down here in South West Florida -(Sunday - Oct 25th) just about 83 - 85 degrees with No humidity. What a relief - finally.

The snow birds are slowly making there way back - (you can see more of the Northern License Plates coming back) but the beaches are still pretty much quiet enough that you can enjoy the beach in your thong.

Today - headed to Barefoot Beach - 3rd parking lot at the end and walked south to the more quieter end of the beach. Set my stuff up in the back area away from any stray strollers that may make there way down to the end of the beach.

The water temps are even getting a bit cooler too.

288988  John - We Floridians do not have anything against snowbirds - As Travel & Tourism is the most valuable source of income in the State of Florida. So generally speaking we love snow birds. If anyone else knows - who lives/ lived in a "seasonal" community or area - they know what it's like living in an area that goes from quiet in the off season - to crazyness in the in season.

Generally this means having more people at the beaches (which can be good - generally speaking) - but it also means generally more traffic and a tougher time to get to the beaches. Also, a majority of the folks that flock to many of the beaches are going to be retirees & when driving around in areas they are not familiar with the roads & thenm driving through Red Lights etc...  It becomes a scary scene.

So no offense to the fellow thongers from out of State / out of the Country that come to enjoy our Florida Beaches. What I can summarize to you is to be careful when driving on the roads here. Grandma may not know where she is going - and she may end up riding in the back of your trunk or worse hitting you head on at a turn signal at a light. There are plenty out here on the roads that should simply not be driving any more.

Enjoy the Florida beaches - just be cautious on the roads.

Great day today at Barefoot Beach. The water was fantastic.
The beaches are clean - and no sign of any oil on any of the beaches here in South West Florida.
Today was a relatively quite day with two other males in thongs at the very Southern end of the beach (last dirt parking lot area). One was in a "semi type thong" - I say this because he had a very brief poser (body builder) type suit on, but when laying out he converted the speedo type cut suit into a thong. He was in great shape - I felt like telling him he should just buy a thong.

Anyone know was that picture from the far south end looking North, or did they reverse it?

sailor250 - I did not see the picture / caption on any link on line from the USA Today newspaper. If you have the URL that you can post it and I'll tell you which way they took the picture. Unfortunately there has been a tremendous amount of erosion happening down the South end of Barefoot beach with several palms and trees being directly washed in to the gulf.

I was out at "Barefoot Beach" on Friday & Saturday and the weather and the water is still great. My advice to anyone coming here to South West Florida is to try and get as South of the beach as possible (the area that just about faces "Delnor Wiggins Pass" - especially on the weekends. Saturdays and Sundays attract some boaters who tend to pull up to the beach area and anchor for a bit. Some of them with Kids / families which can be a pain.
There has been a tremendous amount of erosion at the Southern end of the beach with a lot of trees and brush washed out to the Gulf.
The better area to Thong would be just past where some of the trees are touching the Gulf water where there is less foot traffic.

Recently had a chance to visit.  It's about 30+min drive from Naples downtown because of the 10+min on the Barefoot Beach road which is more of a 5 mile driveway for homes on the water-20mph or less.  The fee is $8 to park.  I went to the south dirt lot and walked to the beach, turned south and about 12 min later was almost at wiggins pass.  The high tide and downed trees kept me from wading around the corner, and right across the inlet were what seemed like 100 people.  I chose a spot about 200 ft from the inlet and still got maybe 5 walkers per hour.  Wore a mesh thong bikini that's very slightly see thru very tan thru, no negative comments- just the opposite. No boats beached there that day.

After a couple of hours I noticed this guy maybe 75 years old in shorts and t shirt who'd walked by some time before southbound, standing behind some downed tree branchs looking my way.  Then after a few min. he walks up to me while I was on my back reading a book and starts a conversation. I couldn't figure out if he was just a friendly midwestern accented guy looking for conversation or----  Well after about 3 min he said "I can't help myself but stare at your beautiful package"  I told him- end of conversation - get out of here.  As he walked away he said "well it is really nice-it's a compliment".  Over the next hour I saw him approach a couple of other guys there alone.

About seeing other thongs?  None- not even a speedo, and no small bikinis on women- most everyone was over 65.

So it's a natural beach, good facilities, wear your thong no problem-most of the time.

sailor250:  why go to such an overpriced, hole-in-the-wall place?  It costs less to drive on the beach in Daytona or park near it in Miami.  I've come to the conclusion that in places where thong-wearing is legal, you're best bet is just pick a spot at random, but do avoid the areas near beachfront bars, kids' playgrounds, or big MTV-type events.  I mean, I've done the random spot thing without a problem in both Daytona and on south Florida's east coast.  Some people refer to "gay sections" to seek out or avoid, depending upon your own preference, but even that's a bit sketchy.  It appears from the comments here on this board that if a man goes alone to a remote area wearing a thong, he becomes a "bait" for all the closeted cruising men of the world, the guys that tap their feet in airport bathrooms.

well in spite of the people on the beach the stretch is well known as a natural beauty beach- in many articles in travel mags and I think even "Dr Beach"

As far as $8 to park- it cost more than that to park at meters in naples at the beach- 25cents in 10 min!  We in NY are used to paying $8 to wipe our butts! Seriously if you want to park in Manhattan even for an hour or two in a garage look for $25-40 before a tip.

When I was there I "voted with my feet" (barefoot?) and didn't go back, instead went to Naples beaches. The natural beauty is outweighed by this issue. The parking meter thing is inconvenient but if I lived there I'd get a parking permit or go to Gulfshore drive access where parking is free.  The beaches seem tolerant of thongs and in several instances (slightly conservative front) G strings.  The advantages are less time walking, not worrying about these guys, better female scenery, less driving.  I didn't try wearing a Dore Very Low thong this time in Naples but I did once before a few years ago without trouble.

Don't even compare this to South Beach- read recent and old posts about what you can wear there- borderline and somewhat illegal suits are no problem.  The females participate in large numbers.

I don't know if these guys really "get action"- if they do or if authorities think they do there might be a sting you'd find yourself in the middle of like Casparean had.

Wed, 5/03/11: parked at far south end of gravel lot. There were aprox. 10 cars. Very hot and a few people strolling. No need to go further south (towards fallen trees) than the pathway access. Laid out in my black HOM. A couple, mid-30s, joined about 20 yards away--no problem--and it looked like they would have joined me in thongs had they thought of it. Water was 83-degrees and very light surf. At this distance from the main crowd near the concession/picnic/nature area, most people seem to be seeking solitude and/or like-minded thongers or minimalists to include nudists. All in all, a pleasant, no-hassle afternoon.

Seigs - I am down in SWF and I have been going to the Naples beaches mostly. Yesterday I was down at "21st" street - and there was this husband and wife that brought there things later on in the afternoon. They both stripped down to their thongs. She was in a black top and bottom suit, and he had on a black thong with what looked to be a Skinz g-String - with the sliding front pouch. They both walked freely along the southerly part of the 21st street beach in their thongs.
The water temperatures were about 75 degrees - so going in the water has been a nice option to have back again.
As for - Barefoot Beach (Northern part of Collier County) - I have not been up that way in a bit. With the snow birds down here and season at it's peak... expect the beaches to be PACKED... as it was this past weekend.

Trip Report: was at Barefoot Beach today around 11:00 and it was NOT a day for thonging as there was a perfect storm of wonderful weather, spring break (more nubile bodies--male and female--than usual, and an improving economy that has created a season in SW Florida not seen in the past 3-4 years. The rangers were advising people to turn back as there were no spaces in any lot, including the less-used north lot adjacent to prime thonging area. Since I had an annual permit, I went in anyway and eventually found a spot in the north lot. The net effect of all this traffic was that mom, pop and the kids had migrated to the lesser-used lot and were populating the lesser-used northern beach area where one can usually thong with abandon or go discreetly nude. Flor the economic health of Southwest Florida, this high demand is a great thing; for thongers, not so much. Having said all this, Naples and Collier County welcome all the breakers and Snowbirds; thanks for leaving your money here!

Trip Report 10/1/2013: This beach is part of the Naples/Collier County Park alliance. With the exception of the Jan-April "high" season, it continues to provide good opportunity for thonging and discreet nudity. The date noted was one of the first fall without the smothering humidity typical of the summer. As before, go to the southern-most (gravel) lot, walk to beach, turn south (left) away from Mom, Pop and the kids. Since most people cluster close to the cross-over, it thins out fairly quickly. Once past the family groups, you'll start to see M/F couples in increasingly skimpy attire. On this mid-80 degree day, the first inkling of like-minded folks were the M/F couples where only half thonged, then M/F, F/F and M/M couples where both were thonging. Scattered along were several single males, plus the single thonging female first spotted in the family parking lot. (Yea!) Further down the beach were two M/F, one M/M couple and several nude males all with cover-ups at the-ready. As always, be mindful of the park rangers. There's usually plenty of time to cover (if nude) as they patrol on gas-powered John Deere Gators. I'm guessing that foot-powered patrolling is not likely due to distance from HQ. In any case: thonging OK (staying away from families) and careful nudity very possible as long as you're mindful of your surroundings. While Collier County is probably the "reddest" of Florida counties, there's increasing use for skimpy-sunning. Entrance fee: $8 per carload, free with Naples/Collier County beach permit.

Butterball, thanks for the update, reminds me I've got to get up there sometime soon.  Didn't have a car mid-summer, and didn't have time first of October, when I drove down to Naples with the first load of furniture for our new condo.  But may be able to check it out in early December, when I drive down with the second load.  I'll have a couple of days before flying home to pick up the wife, then flying back a week later for 'the season'.

Your report makes it sound a lot like East Beach in RI, my New England summer haunt, where things are pretty laid back.  I enjoy stringing on the beach in Naples near the Pier every day, but I'm the only bare-butt male I ever see.  And, regrettably, usually the only bare-butt person.  Love those F's you report seeing, got to get up there and check them out, sounds like great thonging/stringing company!  Doubt I'd bare it all, though, best to save that for the occasional trip to Haulover, where I don't have to look over my shoulder.

I will be down for some job interviews next week, in Bradenton, Naples, and over to Delray Beach, Will arrive Monday afternoon at Tampa, and drive ti these locations for 4 days, so definitely bringing thongs with me. I am interviewing for Recreation Coordinators position, hope one of those places, will hire me, the best would be Bradenton, because of relatives in Clearwater.

Just noted on Google maps that Barefoot Beach is a State Preserve.  Does that mean that thongs aren't allowed, and any thonging means warily looking out for authorities?  If so, maybe I'd better wear the front/back slider bikini I'm getting from buffedbod.com.

In matt dark brown, I plan to wear the bikini in a road race near home on Thanksgiving Day, under dark brown leather flaps that simulate an Eastern Woodland Indian breechclout (being Thanksgiving, a few Pilgrims and Indians always show up).  While the bikini won't show, it will give me the confidence I need running with friends and neighbors.

By contrast, running Bay-to-Breakers in San Francisco, I'd skip the bikini, just the flaps would be overdressed!  May do that next May.

Barefoot Beach is a COUNTY preserve not subject to the thong ban in state parks such as Delnor-Wiggins, the state park south of Barefoot. As in previous posts, go to south (gravel) lot and walk further south on beach. As in most public settings, use discretion. The further south you go, the more thong/nude use except during height of winter season.

Great!  Thanks for the clarification.  I'll ignore Google and go with the locals' experience.  TripAdvisor gives it rave reviews.  Hope to stop by Dec. 4th on my way to the Ft. Myers airport for a flight home.  From a depiction of the cut in a Paul Arsenault painting, looking over toward Delnor-Wiggins, its a gorgeous area, and after scoping it out, I'll surely want to return with my wife.

Are there any shower facilities at the parking lots?  If not, I'll take a jug of tap water to rinse off, just as I do at East Beach in RI.  Do many folks walk all the way to the cut, or is there pretty good privacy there?  As always, I'll use discretion and good old common sense, but I hope hiking along in my string will feel okay.  That's something I avoid on the beach in Naples near the Pier, my usual spot, since I'm not into exhibitionism, yet enjoying nature nearly nude provides a very pleasant sensation of openness and freedom.

One can rinse off at the showers located near the food concession, nature center; however, that is near the most public, family area although I recently saw a female thonger happily de-sanding there. No need to hike all the way south to the cut as, ironically, traffic increases due to boats in the pass and anchored boats. The best spot for thong/discreet nude use is to hike south to near the fallen trees--you'll know them when you see them.
