I'd like to share a few current pictures of Reed. She is an eight year old freezebranded Kiger mare captured from the Riddle HMA in 2003. I feel very fortunate to have her.

Great shots! Looks to be a nice mover too. Are you training her for showing?

Thank you. My goal is to have a good handle, self carriage, ultimate roundness and collection on this horse. When Reed and I can master the 17 maneuvers within the basic handle, then I'll consider competing with her. She is a challenge and allows me the opportunity to improve my riding skills, and the confidence to know my ability to be a thinking rider. Boy does she make me think and it's all about negotiating with her.

WOW Melissa, looks like you've been doing some work on her. She's got great extention in that 2nd pic and her slide looks good also.

When I get Mav back, Im hoping to plan a trip up that way sometime. It would have to be a weekend trip I guess given how high diesel is now. I was thinking of going back to Fort Mountain State Park. They've got some great trails up that way. I'll let you know. If not for riding, I would still like to come up and see all your kiger's one day.  The weather is getting perfect down here, so Mav is hitting the trails hard when I get him back, we've got several camping trips and poker rides planned coming up and I can't wait to get him back.

I also wanted to run this by you, I went to a "Horse Day's Festival" a few weeks ago here locally and they do a show of breeds. Which is really wonderful. Through out the whole day, they'll have rider's of each breed/discipline come into the arena and show and tell facts about the breed. I thought what a great way to get the Kiger's known around this area. It's usually a great turn - out, lots of people attend, this is the 2nd year she's had it. Very nice faicility, enclosed arena. I was thinking of putting Mav in it next year, if you'd be interested in attending or anyone else around the area, let me know and I'll find out more info. I know the lady who owns the farm, I take my horse's up there and ride a lot.

The Horse Day's Festival sounds very interesting. See what you can find out about the event.
Thanks,

Melissa
