RE:working with Riddle
(Date Posted:01/11/2008 1:30 AM)
Tonight we went out and I brushed him, and got all the snarls out of his mane, cleaned his hooves, brushed him down he is loosing allot of his winter coat. We haven't done much with him it has been rainy, but we are finally heading into a drying spell. So we will work with him, If I did not know he was a stallion I would not have guessed, he is so calm, cool, and collected, he does have a bit of an attitude. His bucket that I put his yummies in he moves around and if I move it back to where I feel it should be he puts his mussel in it and moves it and looks at me like ok you want to do this again, or what. I laugh. He loves to be rubbed, but is still a bit skittish around his face, but with time and patients that will change. He is looking good. nola

RE:working with Riddle
(Date Posted:01/12/2008 2:05 AM)
today we were out with the horse's as usual, I decided to groom Riddle after Jim gave him his worm medicine (which was not a problem like the other 2 times), and he was so good, he didn't fight me when I wanted to do his feet, like he does sometimes with Jim, he let me brush his mane, and curry comb his body, and I got off a lot of hair and Jim brushed out his tail, To him our 60+ degree weather feels warm that he is shedding big time, so I will keep doing this every night. His coat is starting to shine, he is putting on weight, feeling good, he lets all the ladies and men know he is here, which he didn't really do when we first got him home, I can't get over the changes. I do believe he like women better then men. At least he like this lady better then Jim. he does not have to be put on a lunge rope to lunge him. Jim stands and point and he knows what to do, and when Jim says whoa he stops, but he does not face us yet, we will work on that.he still flinches at bit when I comb him not as bad as when we got him, so I feel this will get better over time too. nola

So does this mean that Nola has herself a stallion? And Jim has a mare? Hehehe...Funny how he likes you best! I love it! Probably from all that good grooming your doing...And I'm envious...60 degrees? Shoot, here it's still hard winter and frozen ground! And I can't wait to see what my little Kiger colt sheds out like! Keep up the great work with both horses...You guys are doing a great job!

Nola:
Yep we have nice 100% humidity summers....Ones that make me LONG for the summers of my youth in Northern California where it was only 105 and no humidity....Humidity is a dirty word in my weather vocabulary! One where the horses and I stand in the shade in 95 degree weather and still sweat pours off you...BLECH! Wish I could get the hubby to move!
On a fun note.....I had a friend that came out and worked with my little Kiger colt today....See yesterday my neighbor came over while the colt and I were off for a walk around the neighborhood...Little Cordero was not interested in meeting the neighbor! So sometimes I forget how used to just a few people these mustangs can be so luckily I got one of my horse loving friends to come over and play with the baby today! Gotta get him used to strangers so he's a good boy for the vet, farrier, and other visitors! I think this was one thing I just forgot about with these horses! I told her to keep coming back and bring some more people!
Take care,
Angela

cool, yes they are not stranger lovers which is good. Riddle still does not come up to us as he did Rick, but he was with Rick for a long time before I got him, but he is so good for the vet and the farrier they both were so pleased, and could not believe he was a stallion by his attitude, answer to your other post, sorry I thought I did but as I reread it I relized I didn't. 1) yes he is mine and so is my mare, but she is #1 in my life.and as soon as he get to where he likes Jim a bit more then he is his, but I also tend to call everything mine until they act up then they are Jim's except for Stormy ,my dog's roofus and Issabella they are mine and mine alone and it is their choice. 2) I too feel it is from the grooming, and I also bring him his bucket of yummies every night, so that has allot I think to do with it. his yummies are his bran and his stratigey with pelletts thrown in every other time. I understand about that ugly word humidity, when it hits here I want to dye, it is about 105+ and high humidity it is not only hot it is hard to breath, much less ride and for the animals work in it.I can not wait till we get up to our property in North Eastern AZ. I will have to put up with butt cold winters, but hey I can keep warm with a fire, heater and warm clothes, but i can not take off enough clothes to cool off, and be able to go outside hehe. would not do that anyway, but I am sure you understand. what part of California did you grow up in, I use to live in Medesto for a few years, but AZ kept calling us back home. nola

we are getting ready to start to work and ride Riddle, we are going to get a hackamore this weekend and start out slow with him, he needs to get use to us, and we him, well husband rather. I will watch and take pictures of the whole process if it goes. We also are moving (hopefully) this weekedn, so our plate will be full. I will keep everyone posted and on the other board post pictures it is so much easier over there.
