Snow on the HMAs this morning, and in Burns! It's that time of year. Come prepared!
Oh! Yeah! I forgot to mention... the work on the Burns Corrals was not what many expected, but very necessary. I expect they will open the corrals as they did last time so the horses can be viewed up close in the pens. That means walking all the runs between pens. Bring footwear that you would wear for an easy hike, and that will handle mud and "muck"! I think I would leave the umbrella's in the cars though... if you want to see any horses up close! ...T

4 of the 6 will be onsite. Each with differnt reason and beliefs what a kiger is and where it will go.Maybe each one can post here what they stand for.
Tell What It's All About . . .
The Kiger Horse Association and Registry (KHAR), an official Registry of the Kiger horse, was formed in an effort to help preserve and promote the Kiger, as well as establish a professional registry, exemplifying integrity, accuracy, honesty, and high moral and ethical values. Subsequently, KHAR was established to "aid and encourage" the "preservation of the Kiger horse and its unique breed characteristics as described in the 1996 BLM Kiger/Riddle Management plans. It was also established to "encourage adherence to the Kiger Breed Standard" and promote breeding with the specific breed characteristics as the goal. The purpose of KHAR, of course, goes much deeper than that. KHAR's philosophy provides that it protect and maintain the Breed Standard in order to assure the Breed's survival. The registry's deep sense of commitment will assure that the integrity of the Standard and characteristics will never be jeopardized.
None of the current directors or officers of KHAR were present nor a part of the original group of individuals who participated in the decision to accept horses originating from other herd management areas. However, KHAR does offer a solution to this long-embattled found horse issue.
Every Kiger, at the time of registration with KHAR, must submit to DNA and is required to provide documentation that its parents must also have DNA certification.
Registration and Recording requirements are defined in the following divisions: 1) Traditional; 2) Appendix; 3) Provisional; and 4) Part Blood; There are also provisions for hardship cases, i.e. offspring of gray horses, and/or other unique
situations.
KHAR encourages all of its members to participate in the decision-making processes through discussion and voting, despite the wide diversity of the individuals and their nation-wide locations. KHAR has ensured that rather than a select few making decisions for the entire registry and organization, everyone shall have a voice. KAHR's Board takes pride in being a member-friendly organization with national representation and encourages and provides forums where everyone has a voice.
Feel free to visit our web site at to find out more about the Kiger Horse Association & Registry.

WOW sounds like that KHAR group is what the Kiger horses have been looking for . A honest , fair, and with the highest morals ever to come along in the kiger world. Not to mention open to all with a voice. If this KHAR really works then KMA and SMKR can fold and knowing that the kigers will be in good hands for ever. Good going.

Would those of you who are lucky enough to go to the auction and even luckier to adopt one of these beauties, please post its number so we can refer to the photos in the catalog and share your excitement? Lucky people...lucky horses.
I'm looking forward to reading reports of the weekend happenings.

Well ...I can breath a sigh of relief, I do not meet the requirements to adopt a wild Mustang as I no longer have a 6ft wooden corral. It was taken' down awhile back when we decided to build a big barn. So it is safe for me to go see and meet everyone, although I will be sad not to bring one home, thats OK, there are plenty of Kigers out there and when I am ready for one. I know where to look.
Anyway, I am curious. For those folk traveling from afar how does the BLM asure that they have the proper facilities to contain a Mustang?Do people bring photos of where they plan to keep the Kiger? or do they trust that when they fill out the the form, that they do indeed have the room and the proper fencing required, when they say they do? I was just curious because I would want to know if I needed to bring along proof of where I planned to keep the Kiger if I needed to.

The BLM comes out and checks on your horses and facility during the year that they hold the title. We adopted 2 mares a few years back and they came out twice, the first was not so soon after the adoption. I belive if you have lied, they not only reposses your horses, but you get in big trouble. After all, you are dealing with the government. My husband was involved in a case up north with a facility that had adopted mustangs/burros and was not caring for them (I think at least one died because it did not recieve vet care), it was big deal and lots of heads rolled.
