Just wondering....
what is it about the Kiger that you think makes them better than any other breed of horse?  Trying to get an opinion poll going here.
I don't want to know what attracted people to the breed in the first place, rather what is it about them that keeps owners  dedicated to the breed.
For me, it's the boys. While I have a lot of admiration for those smart...but pissy...mares, what I really admire most is how hard the boys try to please.  Don't know whether or not to call it heart or "try", but it's been my experience that most of the studs or geldings bend over backwards to make their owners happy. They  certainly don't "get it right" every time, but, oh, golly, do they ever seem to try.  Most of 'em, anyway. And they try a lot harder to please than any paint, quarter horse, or appy that I've ever owned.

So how do the rest of you feel about it? What makes these horses really great? I mean, it sure ain't because they can compete with Rugged Lark or Refrigerator, etc.  What do you think their "edge" is?  Now I am pretty darned sure nobody is staying with Kigers because they think that Kigers are great at timed events! Do you stay with Kigers because they look like something Jake Spoon would ride, or because  you love duns, or because nobody else on your block has got one, or is there another reason?
Lets get a conversation going.

They are intelegent, they have a look in their eyes that I have not seen in other horse's, i agree about the trying to always please, that is how my mare is, now my Stallion, he is sweet, more dicile then any other stud i have known, he is a ladies horse that is for sure. they are the best.

I will be first in line to say put together right they are beautiful. I like to have pretty in my pasture right beside my not so pretty but performing breeds. I have yet to experience the easy Kiger gentleman, as all my half Kiger are fillies and mares. Funny though they have not deterred me from the breed the challenge and loyalty of the mares has made me enjoy the breed even more. They are very kind, very people oriented horses, they seek out human attention while  my other horses of various breeds are content with the herd. It is that one quality  I think that really sells a Kiger Mustang.
I watched a program on TV about how we as humans bred into the wolf the abilty to look to humans instead of the pack and that is how we created our best friend the dog. I think when your horse looks to you instead of the herd, it makes that horse very appealing to the horse owner looking for a partner not necessarily a performer.

I like the personalities.  Each is different, but yet have a similar quality in their willingness to try to accept you.  Some may be distant, but yet seem to want to reach a happy medium.  I enjoy the challenge of finding the magic button to open up their hearts to allow them to accept what you are willing to offer, and that deep down they desire to accept.  Watch their eyes, they say so much!  ...T
