Hi Guys,  Since my 75 V doesn't have original pickups, I'm thinking of putting in new ones.  The Sheptones and Fralins are nice, but I was thinking of putting Gibson's in.  The new PAFs are nice but I was thinking of something a little hotter, a little dirtier.
Is anyone using any of the following combinations, and if so, how would you describe them, and how do you like them? Also do you know of a website that has sample sounds of these pickups?
Dirty Fingers (neck and bridge)
496R and 500T combo.
490R and 498T combo.
Thanks, John

Dirty Fingers - sounds too dirty
496R 500T - a bit on the harsh side(500T), 496R sounds great in the neck position
490R 498T - too much high mids for the V

The 500T is a good pickup (nice clean tone - overdriven it depends on the V(bright sounding V-no go->harsh sound))

Maybe you could like the 57classic plus in the bridge position.

I love the 57 Classic Plus' in both neck and bridge, and I turn the neck p/u around, seems to clear up the tone a bit more. YMMD.

+1 on Classic 57.  Great pickup, works well in both positions.
the 500T is about as hot a pickup as you will ever find, but as people say, they can sound harsh if you don`t dial in your tones around them.  I used to have my tones all built around 500T output, and never got what people were talking about, but then spent several years dialing tones around Classic 57`s and 498T`s and then noticed when I went back to the 500T.

the 500T with it`s nearly 16-18k resistance is also going to be affected more by longer cord runs than something like a Classic 57 which is more like half that.

It's really a matter of taste. I've thrown 3 sets with the 500T into the spares box.

Seymour Duncan Antiquities are my absolute fave. Great for nondistorted sounds.
The Classic '57 are a bit more 'open' in comparison.
... and their outputs matches reasonably with my Strat.

If you're going to go with Gibsons then I agree with VEEMAN. 57 Classics + pickups sound fantastic.  For the classic UFO/Michael Schenker sound I would recommend a Seymour Duncan '59 in the Neck and a Seymour Duncan SH-5 custom in the bridge. I've got this setup in 2 of my V's and I love it!  The SH-5 custom really nails that Schenker mid-range tone.
