Jeff,  You got me interested in this due to your post regarding this book for sale on Amazon and Ebay for $145.  So, I did a little digging.  Yes, the book is out of print, but there are still copies available out there.  The problem as always is finding out where they are.  A lot of music stores and guitar stores don't advertise things such as books - not much money in it.  You can get these books until they are all gone from 2 sources that I have found.  There may be many other sources; someone has to have these books lying around on shelves.

Larry Meiners tells me that they are available from his publisher at

for $50.
They claim there are less than 25 copies available anywhere.  But I don't think they really know that.

I discovered 25 copies available at Chicago Music Exchange 773-525-7773.  They mistakenly bought 50 copies a year ago.  They know the book is out of print and may raise their price on it.  I bought my copy this week for $20 plus shipping and IL Sales Tax.  They also have an online store where you can order for $20 if you get there before they raise the price.  Not sure if they are going to raise the price, but who knows.  Anyway, get your copies now before they really are all gone.   CME got there copies from Hal Leonard, who distributes everything music.  Hal has none left.

I should have bought them all and put them for sale on Ebay for $100 each.  That would take care of those money grubbing SOBs that are trying to get $145.  :-).  I hate when people try to take advantage of an unknowing or unsuspecting public.  Buyer Beware!

and selling it for $100 isn't money grubbing?
still, I applaud your research on this.  I'm not certain I need more than one copy (I kind of want the 2nd edition, but have been informed by fellow members that it is not a big enough difference to warrent needing)

I'm picking up the 2nd edition today from Barnes & Noble ($20).  It has about 30 extra pages of something, so after I read it, I'll throw a comment out here.

i have both editions. the only difference is the second has a bunch of epi's and a few custom shops.
