My 75 Natural was pretty banged up before I got it.  Refinishing a painted guitar is easy, fill in the dings, sand, and paint.  Has anyone had any experience filling dings and gouges and then doing a natural finish?  In my past woodworking experience, it's really hard to find a filler color that will match the wood 'after' the wood is finished since the wood takes on a different color even after a clear finish.  Also, although the guitars are called natural finish, is the finish really clear, or is there a slight amber color to it?  Thanks.

Leave it alone. I cherish every single chunk and dent I ever knocked out/put into my V. (Even if somebody else did the damage, I'd leave it as is).

 Don´t refinish it!
Your guitar has history, and it´s supposed to show.
Unless it has some ugly re-routing like a kahler etc, why should you do it?
Banged up guitars are cool, and even the value of the guitar should be higher untouched.
Nowdays, people buy brand NEW relic´d guitars... you have a real relic.

pics!
PICS!

arrrrrr!  PICS!

+1 on the natural relic look.  I know I try to keep my guitars as clean as possible, but the wear is a testament to the instrument's travels.

Hope adding this pic works.  It's my first try.  There's not much that's standard on this guitar.  Gold and/or brass hardware, non standard PUPs.  Even the controls were repositioned to look like a 50's model.  I think I'll go back to a creme/black/creme pickguard, reposition the controls, etc.  Which knobs are correct?  The tailpiece is Gibson, but the bridge is brass.  If I go with a Gibson bridge, which one is more period correct, the Nashville TOM, or the ABR-1?  Since the PUPs are non standard, I was thinking of going with the Sheptone PAFs.  Has anyone tried the Fralin PUPs.  Opinion?  Thanks guys, John

Nice guitar. Kinda special with all that brass. My guess is, the brigde pu is a DiMarzio Distortion+ and maybe the neck is a Bill Lawrence? In short, the ultimate '79 modification. Saw that mod done some times in my childhood peeping into the room with the luthiers bench at the local store.
If I were you I'd probably go for a set of Seth Lover's or Classic ´57 + some yellow/gold witch hat knobs (if possible).

Thanks for the input Morten.  Regarding the PUPs, actually the neck pickup is a DiMarzio super distortion (go figure), and the bridge is unknown.  No tags on it, but it does have a number stamped on the back plate - 281101.  That's the only identifier.  I was thinking of keeping the gold look.  I'll look into the Seth Lover's.  Haven't heard of them before.  Thanks again.

odd to see a 58 style knob placement on a 67 style pickguard.
nice V.  I believe the 70's erra V's of this ilk had TOM bridges, although perhaps I am wrong.  can I get a fact check?
