I was told this is a 1982 Gibson Flying V (I'm pretty sure it's not, though, can anyone help me with this? Serial: 63073534). At some point the neck became disconnected from the body, which was then repaired, and the repair is factory solid, though it doesn't look too pretty. Price was right, though. $140 as-is, and sounded great with no pickups in it unplugged. The story I was told was that it came stock from the factory with a Kahler-type vibrato, which is stamped Gibson. He said Kahler wasn't doing too well in the early 80s, so instead of licensing the Kahler design, gibson essentially copied it, knowing Kahler didn't have the money to sue them. the trem has been modified by a previous owner to have a lock-screw installed, like the modern Kahler Hybrids. It was originally black, but was sanded down at some point in it's life and now has a vinyl snakeskin applique on the top and bottom, which is going to be removed. It doesn't have a pickguard, so I'm debating what do do with this. I'm considering going down to bare mahogany, and doing a sand-stain-sand to get a natural finish with stain in the grain, or going Bright red with a black Full-size PG, like the Ibanez RG550RRs, but I have no idea how to go about getting a pickguard made for one of these, as they don't have the same control scheme as the 67s or the Gothics. Also gonna have it refretted and dye the fretboard black, as the guitar has no value left whatsoever, as far as I'm aware. What do you guys think? Planning to put a set of Chrome-topped EMG 81/85s in it, I need an 80's metal and punk axe, my 7-strings are a bit heavy-duty for a Hair Metal cover band. I would have liked to keep the snakeskin for the project, but it was just too ugly and poorly-done.
