Woo Hoo!

sale prices on robots we just too rediculous to pass up.  After a month of solid working, I decided to treat myself today to an early B-day present. The shop locally had the same Robot V and Explorers I saw in the early summer (Almost certain they were the same instrument), a  Black Les Paul Robot still in box and a Silverburst SG.  One of the Explorer's tuners appeared to have busted (too bad), the neck on the SG was bat like, and I don't like the style of guard, but the V played nice, and the price was too hard to resist.

I know the last 5 instruments I bought were not V's, but I'm back in the game today!
While I am less than in love with the no-pickguard look because it reminds me of the less than great cut-rate alder V's of the 80's, the bound neck with block inlays and ebony fretboard is quite nice, and the pickups sounded good, and the feel and playability was quite nice.

Very nice! Hope this model is better than the shred V. The color is fantastic. Have you thougth of adding a pickguard, mayby a 58 style?

Awesome looking guitar, the neck is stunning and the serial is cool (I like repeating numbers).
Ebony fretboard, inlays and the binding makes this V looking great (yeah and the color is really good).
This V looks really clean without the pickguard, I like the contrast with the white parts and the red color.
Is the tuning system working great? What about the balance of neck and body(due to the weight of the tuning system)?

Congrats, brother

Sorry, Aimoo doesn't like the link.  Just check Sam Ash's website.  I assume they won't last that long.

it's all part of the blow out,  Yes, all the first generation robots are on deep deep discounts from your local Gibson dealers it seems.
I've been using the Green Les Paul for almost a year and a half now, and it has become indespensible for me.  it is why I had to have a second Robot.

I used to say "this is great, it can replace 4 of the 5 instruments that I used to gig with".
but in response people would say "yeah, but what if it breaks, or you bust a string?"

well I have an answer now.
second robot.  no brainer.  I'm still down to half the guitars I used to need,  So happy I got the V as well.  the robot Les Paul was turning me into a boring old les Paul guy anyways.

AND neck binding and inlays at a fraction of the price of the block inlay version from 79. Sure, it's not the same thing at all.
still...
so cool.
I played this all night long at rehersal, something about the instrument is taking the edge of the 500T.  it still has all the power, but less of the nasaly harshness.  Could it be the neck?  Can ebony board and binding make that much of a difference?

Many congrats on your new Robot.
It's very possible the ebony board is the reason for the variation in tone.

I was A/B ing it with the Les Paul today through same amp and cable.  There is a difference, but it is fairly subtle.  This seems odd to me as the LP has covers and the 498 in the Bridge, while the V has an uncovered 500T.  Given this, one would think that the V would sound harsher and brasher and the LP would sound more like a LP.

There is more bite to the V, yet it also sounds smoother.
hmmm

trying to write about tone is like trying to dance about architecture....this will require some thought.
